Cremorne Theatre
The Cremorne Theatre was a theatre in South Brisbane, Queensland, South Brisbane (now part of South Bank, Queensland, South Bank), Brisbane, Queensland, Australia that operated, with interruptions, from 1911 to 1954. Although nothing remains of it today, the general location retains its cultural significance from the first half of the twentieth century as a theatre precinct, thanks to the nearby construction of QPAC, Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) in 1985. Its name lives on in the new Cremorne Theatre, one of the venues within QPAC. Brisbane Central Business District
Brisbane City is the central suburb and central business district of Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, Australia. It is colloquially referred to as the "Brisbane CBD" or "the city". It is located on a point on the northern bank of the Brisbane River, historically known as ''Meanjin'', ''Mianjin'' or ''Meeanjin'' in the local Aboriginal Australian dialect. The triangular shaped area is bounded by the median of the Brisbane River to the east, south and west. Cremorne Point Manor is a 4 star boutique hotel in North Sydney, Australia. It is established in a 19th-century federation style 2 story building on Cremorne Road, Cremorne Point, which has been designated by the government of New South Wales as a North Sydney Heritage. History Cremorne Point Manor was once a guesthouse named ''Redcourt''. According to a tourist guide advertisement of 1927/28, one Miss L. F. Carl was a contact person for ''Redcourt''. Public records show that the 19th century federation style 2 story building used to be 8 Cremorne Road until the property was split in a deed in 1988, then it became 6 Cremorne Road. The building overlooks Cremorne Point and Mosman Bay. It was once restored, later renovated and modernised, but maintains its 19th-century federation style. Broadhurst is a heritage-listed detached house at 138 Flinders Parade, Sandgate, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was built from to . It is also known as Broadhurst, Convalescent Home, and Sandgate Home-Maternal and Child Welfare Service. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 29 September 1997. John McCallum (actor)
John Neil McCallum, (14 March 19183 February 2010) was an Australian theatre and film actor, highly successful in the United Kingdom. He was also a television producer. Early life McCallum's father, John Neil McCallum Sr., was a theatre owner and entrepreneur, who built and for many years ran the 2,000 seat Cremorne Theatre on the banks of the Brisbane River. After emigrating from Scotland, McCallum Snr. became an accomplished musician, and was soon heavily involved in Brisbane's entertainment scene. His mother was an accomplished amateur actress who was born in England. In 1918, McCallum Jr. was born in Brisbane during the opening night of a comedy performance. After his birth, a family friend sent his father a wire: 'Congratulations on two howling successes'. Cremorne is a heritage-listed villa at 34 Mullens Street, Hamilton, Queensland, Hamilton, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Eaton & Bates and built from 1905 to 1906. ''The Northern Miner'' is an online newspaper published in Charters Towers, Queensland, Australia. History ''The Northern Miner'' was first established in 1872 by James Smith Reid. Reid established the paper only eight months after the discovery of gold in the regional Queensland town Charters Towers. In 1876 Reid sold the paper to Thadeus O'Kane. As the owner and editor of the Northern Miner, O’Kane devoted himself and the paper to improving the lives of the miners working in Charters Towers. Of the five newspapers published in the goldfields ''The Northern Miner'' was the only one to survive the downturn in gold mining.
