Henry Pering Pellew Crease
Sir Henry Pering Pellew Crease (20 August 1823 – 27 November 1905) was a British-Canadian lawyer, judge, and politician, influential in the colonies of Vancouver Island and British Columbia. He was the first Attorney General of the united Colony of British Columbia, and sat on the Supreme Court of that province for 26 years. Early life Crease was born at Ince Castle, in Cornwall, the son of a Royal Navy captain. He earned his BA from Clare College, Cambridge and then studied law at the Middle Temple. Though called to the bar in June 1849, he did not immediately pursue his career in law. Instead he joined his parents in an unsuccessful canal building endeavour in Upper Canada. After only a short turn as a barrister on his return to England, he took a job in Cornwall managing a tin mine owned by Great Wheal Vor United Mines, which ended with his employer suing him. Kevin John Crease (8 May 1936 – 12 April 2007) was a South Australian television presenter and news presenter. He was most noted for presenting South Australian edition of the Nine Network's'' National Nine News'' with Rob Kelvin between 1987 and 2007. Early life Born in North Adelaide and raised in the working class seaside suburb of Semaphore, Crease was the eldest of four children. He was a prodigious public speaker from a young age and won the Year 7 senior school debating championship. He started his working life as a clerical worker in 1952 with Shell before becoming a copy boy and later cadet at Adelaide's '' The News'' newspaper, where he quickly "fell foul of the chief-of-staff" and was sacked. Susan Reynolds Crease
Susan Reynolds Crease (November 18, 1855 – July 15, 1947) was an English-born Canadian artist and activist for women's rights. Life The daughter of Sir Henry Pering Pellew Crease and Lady Sarah Lindley Crease, she was born in Antron, Cornwall and came to Victoria, British Columbia in 1860. Crease moved to New Westminster with her family in 1862, returning to Victoria six years later. She took private art lessons in Canada and England, also attending art classes at King's College in London with her sister Josephine. Crease produced a number of watercolours of Vancouver Island. She was a member of the Island Arts and Crafts Society. From 1884 to 1933, she was a member of the local Local Council of Women and helped promote the visit of suffragist Emily Pankhurst. The diaries of Susan and her mother, Sarah, are noted for their portrait of Victoria life at the turn of the 20th century. Crease died in Victoria at the age of 91. Sarah Lindley Crease (1826–1922) was a Canadian artist. Born in England, as the daughter of botanist John Lindley, Crease studied art with Charles Fox and Sarah Ann Drake. Her early works were botanical illustrations for her father's publications, such as ''The Gardener's Chronicle''. She emigrated to Vancouver Island in 1859, where her husband, Henry Pering Pellew Crease, became a prominent Supreme Court Judge. Besides her seven children, Crease taught Sunday school in the Anglican church and was a volunteer and fundraiser for many local cultural institutions. She was a talented amateur as a painter and is noted for her many watercolours of the Hudson's Bay Company fort, the city of Victoria, British Columbia, and other British Columbia locales.
