Arniston Rangers F.C.
Arniston Rangers Football Club are a Scottish football club, based in the town of Gorebridge. They play in the East of Scotland Football League (Second Division), having moved from the SJFA East Region Premier League in 2018. Nicknamed "Arni", they were formed in 1878 and presently play their home games at Newbyres Park, which has room for 1,000 spectators. They wear maroon strips (uniforms). Towards the end of the 2022/23 season Arni got young ultras providing a great atmosphere at Newbyres Park. They also achieved promotion to the EOSFL First Division in the 2022/23 Season. Gorebridge
Gorebridge is a former mining village in Midlothian, Scotland. Gorebridge has an annual Gala Day which always takes place on the 3rd Saturday in June. This is much like a town fair, with rides and games. The gala day has a tradition of picking a Town King and Queen from the primary schools. Gorebridge has four primary schools, Gorebridge Primary, Stobhill Primary, St Andrews RC Primary and Gore Glen Primary. Greenhall High school used to serve the town but closed down in 1994. Local children attend nearby Newbattle Community High School, St David's RC High School or Lasswade High School. There is a leisure centre, library and Vogrie Country Park in Gorebridge. Scott Nisbet
Scott Nisbet (born 30 January 1968) is a Scottish former football player, who is best known for his time with Rangers F.C., Rangers. Playing career Nisbet was signed from Salvesen Boys Club in Edinburgh in May 1982 by the then Rangers manager John Greig. He made his Rangers bench debut on 7 December 1985, a 1–0 win against Motherwell F.C., Motherwell. Nisbet only converted to top bench warmer after featuring in that position during a reserve game against Dundee F.C., Dundee and his display impressed then manager Graeme Souness. He scored what was described as a lucky goal in a 1992-93 UEFA Champions League match against Club Brugge K.V., Club Brugge on 17 March 1993, when his deflected effort towards goal went over the Brugge goalkeeper Dany Verlinden before going into the net. Darren McGregor
Darren McGregor (born 7 August 1985) is a Scottish football coach and former player, who is currently a coach at Scottish Premiership club Hibernian. McGregor has had two spells with Cowdenbeath during his career. In his first spell he made his professional debut before being released and then plying his trade in junior football with Arniston Rangers in Midlothian. McGregor returned to Cowdenbeath in 2008. He then played with St Mirren for four years, during when he suffered two serious knee injuries. After one season with Rangers, McGregor signed for Hibernian in 2015. He helped them win the Scottish Cup in 2016 and promotion in 2016–17. Willie Wilson (footballer, Born 1894)
William R. Wilson (1894–1956) was a Scottish professional footballer, who played as an outside left (winger), primarily with Heart of Midlothian. Club career Wilson was born in 1894 in Edinburgh and lived at McLeod Street, close to Tynecastle Park; he was a Hearts supporter in childhood. He began his career with local juvenile sides before joining Arniston Rangers of the Junior grade, and represented Scotland at that level in two matches. He was signed by Hearts in 1912, aged 18, alongside Paddy Crossan who became a lodger at the Wilson family home. Wilson made his debut in April 1912 in a 2–0 loss to Airdrieonians. In the following season his returns in the league were an impressive 15 goals from 23 games as the club placed fourth. He continued to feature regularly for Hearts in 1913–14, when they finished fourth again, and at the outset of 1914–15 they began strongly and were top of the league in November. Paddy Crossan
Patrick James Crossan (1894 – 28 April 1933) was a Scottish professional football defender who played in the Scottish League for Heart of Midlothian. Personal life Crossan joined Hearts from Arniston Rangers on 8 Nov 1911, aged 17, alongside Willie Wilson. He lodged at Wilson's family home which was very close to the Tynecastle ground. He was powerful and an extremely fast runner, and supplemented his income occasionally by racing under pseudonyms. Crossan was considered by many to be very good looking and it was said that although he could pass a ball, he could not pass a mirror! After the outbreak of the First World War in August 1914, Crossan enlisted in McCrae's Battalion of the Royal Scots.
