Crane Army Ammunition Activity (CAAA) in Crane, Indiana produces and provides conventional munitions requirements in support of United States Army and Joint Force readiness. Crane, Indiana
Crane is a town in Perry Township, Martin County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 184 at the 2010 census. The community is adjacent to the Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division. History Crane was originally known as Burns City Ammunition Depot, and under the latter name was founded in 1940. In 1943, the community was renamed Crane, in honor of William M. Crane, first chief of the Navy Bureau of Ordnance. Geography Crane is located at (38.892703, -86.901294). Joint Munitions Command
The Joint Munitions Command (JMC) is the latest in a series of commands since World War II that have managed the ammunition plants of the United States. Since 1973, those commands have been headquartered on Rock Island Arsenal. Brigadier General Gavin J. Gardner commands the JMC. The headquarters on Rock Island Arsenal is responsible for munitions production (ammunition plants) and storage (depots) facilities in 16 states. JMC employs 20 military, over 5800 civilians and 8300 contractor personnel. Of these approximately 14,000 personnel, more than 650 work in the headquarters on Rock Island Arsenal. Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane Division (NSWC Crane Division) is the principal tenant command located at Naval Support Activity Crane (NSA Crane). NSA Crane is a United States Navy installation located approximately southwest of Bloomington, Indiana, and predominantly located in Martin County, but small parts also extend into Greene and Lawrence counties. Milan Army Ammunition Plant (MLAAP) was an ammunition plant of the United States Army Joint Munitions Command near Milan, Tennessee and about 23 miles (37 km) north of Jackson, Tennessee. Kansas Army Ammunition Plant
The Kansas Army Ammunition Plant (Kansas AAP) was a government-owned, contractor-operated (GOCO) facility, established in 1942, located near Parsons, Kansas. The plant produced ammunition during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The plant was deactivated on March 4, 2009 as part of the Base Realignment and Closure, 2005. The plant is currently owned and operated bDay and Zimmerman, Inc.and primarily produces mortar ammunition. Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant
The Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant was a government-owned, contractor-operated (GOCO) facility 12 miles west of Texarkana, Texas that was established in 1942. The land was purchased from local citizens through Eminent Domain by the United States Department of Defense. The Lone Star Defense Corporation, a subsidiary of the B. F. Goodrich Rubber Corporation, won the contract on July 23, 1941 to produce artillery shells, bombs, fuses, boosters, and other auxiliary munitions at the site. The plant produced ammunition throughout World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The plant was last operated by Day & Zimmermann. 2005 Base Realignment And Closure Commission
The 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission preliminary list was released by the United States Department of Defense on May 13, 2005. It was the fifth Base Realignment and Closure ("BRAC") proposal generated since the process was created in 1988. It recommended closing 22 major United States military bases and the "realignment" (either enlarging or shrinking) of 33 others. On September 15, 2005, President George W.
