Milan Army Ammunition Plant
Milan Army Ammunition Plant (MLAAP) was an ammunition plant of the United States Army Joint Munitions Command near Milan, Tennessee and about 23 miles (37 km) north of Jackson, Tennessee. History Milan Ordnance Depot and Wolf Creek Ordnance Plant were established in 1941. In 1943, they merged, becoming Milan Ordnance Center (MOC) and later Milan Arsenal (MA) in 1945. In the 1960s, it became MLAAP. Capabilities Capabilities of the center included: load, assemble and pack ammunition; 40 mm cartridges; mortars and components; artillery projectiles; ignition cartridges; propelling charges; bursters; grenades; Tactical Missile System; demilitarization/disposal; renovation/reclamation; development and production test support; and logistical support. Joint Munitions Command
The Joint Munitions Command (JMC) is the latest in a series of commands since World War II that have managed the ammunition plants of the United States. Since 1973, those commands have been headquartered on Rock Island Arsenal. Brigadier General Gavin J. Gardner commands the JMC. The headquarters on Rock Island Arsenal is responsible for munitions production (ammunition plants) and storage (depots) facilities in 16 states. JMC employs 20 military, over 5800 civilians and 8300 contractor personnel. Of these approximately 14,000 personnel, more than 650 work in the headquarters on Rock Island Arsenal. JMC has an annual budget of 1.2 billion dollars. JMC provides bombs and bullets to America's fighting forces – all services, all types of conventional ammo from 2,000-pound bombs to rifle rounds. Milan, Tennessee
Milan () is the second largest city after Humboldt in Gibson County, Tennessee and the largest entirely within the county. It is home to the Milan Army Ammunition Plant, the West Tennessee Agricultural Museum and several historical sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The city was the first in Tennessee to begin no-till farming and to fluoridate its drinking water. Kansas Army Ammunition Plant
The Kansas Army Ammunition Plant (Kansas AAP) was a government-owned, contractor-operated ( GOCO) facility, established in 1942, located near Parsons, Kansas. The plant produced ammunition during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The plant was deactivated on March 4, 2009 as part of the Base Realignment and Closure, 2005. The plant is currently owned and operated bDay and Zimmerman, Inc.and primarily produces mortar ammunition. Production While in operation, the Kansas AAP produced a variety of ammunition, from basic artillery and mortar shells to sophisticated air dropped munitions with advanced guidance and control systems. Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant
The Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant was a government-owned, contractor-operated ( GOCO) facility 12 miles west of Texarkana, Texas that was established in 1942. The land was purchased from local citizens through Eminent Domain by the United States Department of Defense. The Lone Star Defense Corporation, a subsidiary of the B. F. Goodrich Rubber Corporation, won the contract on July 23, 1941 to produce artillery shells, bombs, fuses, boosters, and other auxiliary munitions at the site. The plant produced ammunition throughout World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. The plant was last operated by Day & Zimmermann. Today The Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant was officially deactivated September 30, 2009, after serving its mission of providing ammunition for almost 70 years.
