Craithes House is a heritage-listed former rural homestead located at 34-40 Borec Road, Penrith in the City of Penrith local government area of New South Wales, Australia. It was built in 1870. The property is privately owned. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. The City of Penrith is a local government area in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The seat of the city is located in Penrith, located about west of Sydney's central business district. It occupies part of the traditional lands of the Darug people. First incorporated as a municipality on 12 May 1871, on 1 January 1949, the municipalities of Penrith, St Marys and Castlereagh and part of the Nepean Shire amalgamated to form a new Municipality of Penrith. The New South Wales State Heritage Register, also known as NSW State Heritage Register, is a heritage list of places in the state of New South Wales, Australia, that are protected by New South Wales legislation, generally covered by the Heritage Act 1977 and its 2010 amendments. The register is administered by the Heritage Council of NSW via Heritage NSW, a division of the Government of New South Wales Department of Planning and Environment. The register was created in 1999 and includes items protected by heritage schedules that relate to the State, and to regional and to local environmental plans. As a result, the register contains over 20,000 statutory-listed items in either public or private ownership of historical, cultural, and architectural value. Joseph Single
Joseph Daniel Single (22 February 1826 – 29 December 1900) was an Australian politician. He was born around Castlereagh to farmer John Single and Sarah Baker. He became a pastoralist and held the Tellaraga station in the Gwydir district. Around 1854 he married Ann Lydia Frazer, with whom he had sixteen children.
