Crailsheim Merlins
The Crailsheim Merlins, for sponsorships reasons named Hakro Merlins Crailsheim, is a professional basketball club based in Crailsheim, Germany. Established in 1986, the club plays in the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), the highest professional league in Germany. The club is a part of the multi-sports club TSV Crailsheim. Home games are played in the Arena Hohenlohe, which has a capacity of 3,000 people. History The club was founded on 31 January 1986 by a group of students. Until 1994, the team was only active at the lower local leagues and had problems in finding a hall to play at. A year later, the club found a new home in the barracks of departed American armed forces. In 2001, the Merlins managed to promote to the German second division, now the ProA, for the first time. A new home arena was found again, in the form of a renovated market hall. In the 2013–14 season Merlins promoted to the Basketball Bundesliga, by reaching the ProA Finals. FIBA Europe Cup
The FIBA Europe Cup (FEC) is an annual professional club basketball competition organised by FIBA for eligible European clubs. It is FIBA's European-wide second level. Clubs mainly qualify for the competition based on their performance in national leagues and cup competitions, although this is not the sole deciding factor. The league was founded in 2015 as a replacement of the FIBA EuroChallenge. History On June 30, 2015, FIBA announced it would start a new league to compete with Euroleague Basketball's EuroCup. The new competition, which replaced EuroChallenge, was supposed to be open for up to 100 teams to enter. The first FIBA Europe Cup game was played on October 21, 2015, when Donar Groningen beat Egis Körmend 78–71. Yorman Polas Bartolo (born 8 August 1985) is a Cuban-German professional basketball player for Riesen Ludwigsburg of the Basketball Bundesliga. He gained German citizenship in 2015, while he was playing for the Gießen 46ers in Germany. In April 2018, Polas Bartolo was named the Best Defender of the 2017–18 BBL season. In the 2018–19 season, he won the award again. He signed with Riesen Ludwigsburg on 4 August 2020. On March 18, 2021, it was announced that Bartolo won the award for the third time. The 2018–19 Basketball Bundesliga, known as the easyCredit BBL for sponsorship reasons, was the 53rd season of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), the top-tier level of professional club basketball in Germany. The 2016–17 ProA was the 10th season of the ProA, the second level of basketball in Germany. The champions the runners-up of the play-offs are promoted to the 2017–18 Basketball Bundesliga. The Basketball Bundesliga 2014–15 was the 49th season of the Basketball Bundesliga. The regular season started on 2 October 2014 and ended on 3 May 2015. The Playoffs started on 9 May and ended on 21 June 2015. Brose Baskets was the top seed in the regular season. The team also won the title, after it beat Bayern Munich 3–2 in the Finals. TBB Trier and Crailsheim Merlins finished in the relegation places, but due to Artland Dragons withdrawing from the Bundesliga, Crailsheim accepted an offer to remain in the Bundesliga for 2015–16. European Professional Club Basketball System
Professional basketball clubs in Europe can compete in a number of different competitions, including national leagues, regional (multi-national) leagues, and continental competitions. It is therefore possible for clubs from some countries to take part in several levels of competition in the same season. The German basketball league system or German basketball league pyramid is a series of interconnected competitions for professional basketball clubs in Germany. The system has a hierarchical format, with a promotion and demotion system between competitions at different levels. Willie Young (basketball)
Willie Montrel Young (born June 15, 1973) is an American professional basketball coach and former professional basketball player. Career Young graduated from Norview High School in 1992, before playing college basketball at Brevard Community College (1992–95) and at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (1995–97). As a senior, he was the Mocs second-leading scorer (14.0ppg) and helped the team reach the 1997 NCAA Sweet Sixteen. He turned professional in 1998 and spent nine years playing overseas in the Netherlands, Israel, Belgium and Germany. As a rookie, Young helped BV Den Helder win the Dutch national championship.
