Cox Creek is a stream in Lauderdale County, in the U.S. state of Alabama, that flows through the northern portions of the city of Florence. Lauderdale County is a County (United States), county located in the northwestern corner of the U.S. state of Alabama. At the 2020 United States census, 2020 census the population was 93,564. Its county seat is Florence, Alabama, Florence. Its name is in honor of Colonel James Lauderdale, of Tennessee. Lauderdale is part of the Florence-Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Muscle Shoals, AL Metropolitan Statistical Area, also known as "The Shoals". History Lauderdale County was named in honor of James Lauderdale, Col. James Lauderdale who was born in Virginia in about 1780. In the early 19th century, Lauderdale, who moved to West Tennessee, became a major in General John Coffee's cavalry of volunteers. Later promoted to lieutenant colonel, he commanded a brigade of mounted riflemen, serving under Andrew Jackson. According to reliable historians, Col. Florence, Alabama
Florence is a city in, and the county seat of, Lauderdale County, Alabama, United States, in the state's northwestern corner. It is situated along the Tennessee River and is home to the University of North Alabama, the oldest college in the state. Florence is the largest and principal city of the Florence-Muscle Shoals Metropolitan Statistical Area commonly known as "The Shoals" (which also includes the cities of Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, and Tuscumbia in Colbert County).
