Couture Fantasy
Fantasy couture, also sometimes called couture fantasy, is a type of haute couture. It represents a trend in fashion and design that emphasize fantastical appearance over practicality/functionality and has elements drawn from the fantasy genre of literature and of film, often presented in an extreme style of detail, complexity, and precision. The trend is characterized by individuals such as Iris van Herpen, Eiko Ishioka, Guo Pei, Timmy Yip, Tim Yip, Alexander McQueen, Tex Saverio, Stephen Jones (milliner), Stephen Jones, Mary Sibande, and Bobby Love, among many others. Iris Van Herpen
Iris van Herpen (born June 5, 1984) is a Dutch fashion designer known for fusing technology with traditional haute couture craftsmanship. Van Herpen opened her own label ''Iris van Herpen'' in 2007. In 2011, the Dutch designer became a guest-member of the Parisian Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture, part of the Fédération française de la couture. Since then, Van Herpen has continuously exhibited her new collections at Paris Fashion Week. Eiko Ishioka
was a Japanese art director, costume designer, and graphic designer known for her work in stage, screen, advertising, and print media. Noted for her advertising campaigns for the Japanese boutique chain Parco, she collaborated with sportswear company Descente in designing uniforms and outerwear for members of the Swiss, Canadian, Japanese, and Spanish teams at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and was the director of costume design for the opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Guo Pei (, , born 1967) is a PRC Chinese fashion designer. She is best known for designing dresses for Chinese celebrities, and in America for Rihanna's trailing yellow gown at the 2015 Met Gala. Guo is the first born-and-raised Asian designer to be invited to become a guest member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. Timmy Yip
Tim Yip Kam-tim (; born 1967) is a Hong Kong art director and designer for fiction films. He is best known for his work on the 2000 martial arts film '' Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'', for which he won an Academy Award for Best Art Direction. Yip also won a BAFTA award for the film's costume design. He has been alternatively credited as Tim Yip Kam-tim, Kam Tim Yip, Kam-tim Yip, and Tim Yip. Alexander McQueen
Lee Alexander McQueen CBE (17 March 1969 – 11 February 2010) was a British fashion designer and couturier. He founded his own Alexander McQueen label in 1992, and was chief designer at Givenchy from 1996 to 2001. His achievements in fashion earned him four British Designer of the Year awards (1996, 1997, 2001 and 2003), as well as the CFDA's International Designer of the Year award in 2003. Tex Saverio (born 28 August 1984, in Jakarta) is an Indonesian fashion designer. In September 2005, Saverio won a national award in the Mercedes-Benz Asia Fashion Award, which qualified him to compete against other Southeast Asian designers the following year. His winning collection presented clothes that were designed to be worn by both men and women. He left senior school after a year in order to pursue a fashion design career, enrolling at the Bunka Fashion School in Jakarta and then taking on an apprenticeship at the Phalie Studio. Mary Sibande
Mary Sibande (born 11 April 1982) is a South African artist based in Johannesburg. Her art consists of sculptures, paintings, photography, and design. Sibande uses these mediums and techniques to help depict the human form and explore the construction of identity in a postcolonial South African context. In addition, Sibande focuses on using her work to show her personal experiences through Apartheid. Her art also attempts to critique stereotypical depictions of women, particularly black women. Early life Sibande was born in Barberton in apartheid South Africa and was raised by her grandmother. Her mother was a domestic worker herself, and her father was in the South African Army. Bobby Love
Bobby Love is an American fashion designer known primarily for creating designs in the genre known as fantasy couture. Love has identified Salvador Dalí, Alphonse Mucha, and the Art Deco master Erté as major inspirations for his style, and the mechanical parrots which appear in his sets are named "Erté" in his honor. Biography Love was born in Hong Kong and grew up in Singapore before moving to the United States to enroll as a student at Chapman University, a private university in Orange, California, at the age of 16.
