County Of York (South Australia)
The County of York is one of the 49 cadastral counties of South Australia. It was proclaimed by acting Governor Samuel Way in 1895 and named for King George V who was known at the time as the Duke of York. It covers a portion of the state on the Eyre Peninsula east coast at the latitude of Whyalla. Spencer Gulf
The Spencer Gulf is the westernmost and larger of two large inlets (the other being Gulf St Vincent) on the southern coast of Australia, in the state of South Australia, facing the Great Australian Bight. It spans from the Cape Catastrophe and Eyre Peninsula in the west to Cape Spencer and Yorke Peninsula in the east. The largest towns on the gulf are Port Lincoln, Whyalla, Port Pirie, and Port Augusta. Smaller towns on the gulf include Tumby Bay, Port Neill, Arno Bay, Cowell, Port Germein, Port Broughton, Wallaroo, Port Hughes, Port Victoria, Port Rickaby, Point Turton, and Corny Point. Lake Gilles Conservation Park
__NOTOC__ Lake Gilles Conservation Park (formerly Lake Gilles National Park) is a protected area in the Australian state of South Australia located in the north of the Eyre Peninsula about east of Kimba in the gazetted locality of Lake Gilles. The conservation park was originally proclaimed as the Lake Gilles National Park under the former ''National Parks Act 1966'' on 30 September 1971. It was subsequently renamed as the Lake Gilles Conservation Park upon the proclamation of the ''National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972'' on 27 April 1972. On 5 August 2010, the Lake Gilles Conservation Reserve which have been dedicated as a conservation reserve on 9 December 1994 under the state's ''Crown Lands Act 1929'' was added to the conservation park along with another parcel of crown land. As of 2014, access permitted under the state's ''Mining Act 1971'' and ''Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Act 2000'' only applies to the extent of the Lake Gilles water body. Secret Rocks, South Australia
__NOTOC__ Secret Rocks is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on the Eyre Peninsula about to the east of the town of Kimba and about north west of the state capital of Adelaide. The locality was established on 26 April 2013 in respect to “the long established local name.” Its name is derived from the former pastoral lease of the same name. The land use within Secret Rocks is concerned with the use of the former pastoral lease as a protected area known as the Secret Rocks Nature Reserve which fully occupies its extent as of 2010. The Refuge Rockholes Historic Reserve (Secret Rocks) is listed on the South Australian Heritage Register. Mullaquana, South Australia
Mullaquana is a suburb in the Australian state of South Australia located immediately adjoining the southern side of the city of Whyalla in the north east corner of Eyre Peninsula. The locality is bounded by Lincoln Highway to its northern side, the suburb of Whyalla to the east and by and the Spencer Gulf coastline to the south east. Its boundaries were established in June 2000 and revised again in 2011. Its name is derived from Mullaquana Road which is located within the locality and was selected instead of “Eight Mile Creek” in order to avoid confusion with a locality in the south east of South Australia. Myola Station, South Australia
Myola is a locality on the Kokoda Track in the Territory of Papua and the modern state of New Guinea. It is one of two closely located dry lake beds located near where the Kokoda Track crosses the crest of the Owen Stanley Range – also known as "the Gap" or "the Kokoda Gap". Myola, the smaller of the two lake beds, was located and named by Lieutenant Bert Kienzle on 3 August 1943. It became a major resupply point and drop zone for Australian forces during the Kokoda Track campaign. Kienzle then cut a track toward Eora Creek which rejoined the original track at Templeton's Crossing Templeton's Crossing is a locality on the Kokoda Track in New Guinea. Middleback Range, South Australia
Middleback Range is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located in the north east corner of Eyre Peninsula to the south-west of the city of Whyalla and extending from the coastline of Spencer Gulf in the east to the west side of the southern end of the Middleback Range in the west. Its boundaries were created on 26 April 2013 while its name which is ultimately derived from the mountain range of the same name reflects the use of a “long established local name”. Its boundaries were again adjusted in 2014 in association with the creation of the new locality of Cultana. Port Bonython, South Australia
Port Bonython is the location of a deepwater port, gas fractionation plant and diesel storage facility west of Point Lowly in the Upper Spencer Gulf region of South Australia. It lies 16 km east-northeast of Whyalla, South Australia and approximately 370 km north-west of the State's capital city, Adelaide. The existing wharf is 2.4 kilometres long and is capable of berthing small Capesize ships with a maximum capacity of 110,000 tonnes. The wharf was established in 1982 and named after John Bonython, the founding chairman of Santos. The structure is leased to Santos by the Government of South Australia and is used for the export of hydrocarbon products. An oil spill at Port Bonython in 1992 resulted in loss of bird life and damage to mangrove habitats to the west and southwest of Port Pirie.
