"Counting 5-4-3-2-1" is a song by American post-hardcore band Thursday, the first single from their fourth album, '' A City by the Light Divided''. "Counting 5-4-3-2-1" was released to radio on April 11, 2006. The song was originally written during the ''Full Collapse''-era, but was re-arranged in a new key and was deemed suitable to be recorded. Keyboardist Andrew Everding commented on the song's meaning and corresponding music video: " ounting 5-4-3-2-1specifically comes from not being happy in the town that you grew up in and wanting to get out as quickly as possible. When we do videos, we send out a call and receive treatments and that one was one of the first ones that we got from Artificial Army. Thursday is an American post-hardcore band, formed in New Brunswick, New Jersey, in 1997. The band currently consists of Geoff Rickly (lead vocals), Tom Keeley (lead guitar, backing vocals), Steve Pedulla (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Tim Payne (bass), and Tucker Rule (drums). Thursday released their debut album, ''Waiting'', in late 1999 with original guitarist Bill Henderson, who left the band in 2000 and was replaced by Steve Pedulla. ''A City by the Light Divided'' is the fourth studio album by Thursday, released by Island Records on May 2, 2006. Background Following a number of issues regarding promotion and lack of communication with independent label Victory Records, Thursday announced they had signed to major label Island Records in May 2002. With the signing being made official in September, the group began working on material for their third album in November. Starting in January 2003, recording sessions lasted six months. '' War All the Time'' was released in September. Following its release, keyboardist Andrew Everding, who had performed on the album, became a full-time member of the band. The group subsequently embarked on an exhaustive touring schedule with performances in the UK, Japan, New Zealand and Australia. Geoffrey William Rickly (born March 8, 1979) is an American musician, best known as the lead singer and songwriter of rock band Thursday. Rickly is also a member of hardcore punk band United Nations, and the alternative rock group No Devotion with former members of Lostprophets, and is the founder of the record label Collect Records. Personal life Rickly was born in Providence, Rhode Island and raised in Dumont, New Jersey, into a Catholic family, and attended Dumont High School, where he was a member of the band and played the tenor sax. He was raised Catholic, Rickly is a diagnosed epileptic, which has affected his ability to tour. In early 2013, Rickly was mugged in New York City, where his cell phone, iPad, wallet, credit card, rent money, and medication were stolen. ''Full Collapse'' is the second studio album by American post-hardcore band Thursday. It was released on April 10, 2001, through Victory Records, to whom the band signed after leaving Eyeball Records. With the addition of guitarist Steve Pedulla, recording sessions for the album were held in November 2000 at Big Blue Meenie Recording Studios in Jersey City. Sal Villanueva, who served as the producer, the production team and members of different bands contributed additional instrumentation to the recordings. ''Full Collapse'' is considered a post-hardcore album. Preceded by a two-month United States tour, the album's release was promoted with a short series of shows.
