Countdown 1992–1983
''Countdown 1992–1983'' is a double compilation album by the band Pulp released by compilation specialist Nectar Masters on 11 March 1996. Background It features highlights from the band's first three albums ('' It'', ''Freaks'' and '' Separations''), along with non-album singles ("Little Girl (With Blue Eyes)" and "Dogs Are Everywhere") and B-sides ("Death Goes to the Disco", "The Mark Of The Devil", "97 Lovers" and "Blue Glow"). The album title is a reference to the band's song "Countdown", therefore (aside from the extended version of "Countdown" which closes the album) the running order goes backwards chronologically from 1992 to 1983. Being released at the height of Pulp's and Britpop fame, the album reached #10 in the UK Album Chart, the only charting compilation album of the band's Fire Records era material. Fire Records is a British independent record label, run by James Nicholls, with offices in London, England and New York, USA. The label was founded by music journalist Johnny Waller and Clive Solomon in 1985 and released early records from Pulp, Teenage Fanclub (on subsidiary label Paperhouse), Spacemen 3 (formerly on Glass Records), Blue Aeroplanes, Lives of Angels and others. In the early 1990s, the label was home to Neutral Milk Hotel, The Lemonheads, Built to Spill, Urge Overkill and others. Simon Hinkler
Simon Thomas Hinkler (born 13 November 1959) is an English guitarist, keyboard player, songwriter and producer from Sheffield, most notable for being the lead guitarist for the British rock group The Mission from 1986 to 1990. Early musical career Hinkler formed his first band, TV Product, while working at Killis cleaners, Sheffield in 1978. The other members of the group were his housemate Tony Perrin and three friends from the polytechnic. After many line-up changes Hinkler left the band to join Artery on keyboards. He was part of the line-up which recorded the group's most well known songs, including "Into the Garden", which reached number four on John Peel's festive 50 for 1981. This incarnation of the group started to disintegrate around this time, and Hinkler spent much of the next year mentoring the young Jarvis Cocker. My Lighthouse
"My Lighthouse" is the first single by British band Pulp, released in 1983 and taken from the band's debut album '' It''. The song is a gentle acoustic ballad, far from the disco feel that thrust the band into prominence in the early 1990s. There is a very slight difference between the single and album versions of "My Lighthouse". The drums and backing vocals are slightly louder on the single version, which was remixed in January 1983. It was performed live as part of Pulp's 2012 appearance at the Royal Albert Hall for the Teenage Cancer Trust. My Legendary Girlfriend
"My Legendary Girlfriend" is the first single from the album '' Separations'' by British band Pulp. The single was first released in 1991 on 12" vinyl and then in 1996 on CD featuring the original track-listing. "Is This House?" and "This House Is Condemned" were remixed by Parrot (Richard Barratt) and Winston (Winston Hazel). There is a 7" vinyl limited edition of 500 copies version of the single released in 1992 on Bob Stanley's label Caff Records Caff Records was a short lived British independent record label run by Bob Stanley of the band Saint Etienne. The label grew out of a fanzine Stanley put out with fellow band member Pete Wiggs, with the label going by the name Caff, Caff Record .... Jarvis Cocker
Jarvis Branson Cocker (born 19 September 1963) is an English musician and radio presenter. As the founder, frontman, lyricist and only consistent member of the band Pulp, he became a figurehead of the Britpop genre of the mid-1990s. Following Pulp's hiatus, Cocker has pursued a solo career, and for seven years he presented the BBC Radio 6 Music show ''Jarvis Cocker's Sunday Service''. Cocker gained international attention when he invaded the stage at the 1996 Brit Awards during a performance by Michael Jackson. Early life Cocker was born in Sheffield, grew up in the Intake area of the city, and attended City School.
