Count On
Count On is a major mathematics education project in the United Kingdom which was announced by education secretary David Blunkett at the end of 2000. It was the follow-on to Maths Year 2000 which was the UK's contribution to UNICEF's World Mathematical Year. Count On had two main strands: * The website www.counton.org which won the 2002 BETT prize for best free online learning resource. * "MathFests", which were maths funfairs held around the country, aimed particularly at those who would not normally come into contact with mathematical ideas.. The MathFests were run largely by MatheMagic and the University of York. The project has now been handed over to the NCETM. Times Educational Supplement
''Tes'', formerly known as the ''Times Educational Supplement'', is a weekly UK publication aimed at education professionals. It was first published in 1910 as a pull-out supplement in ''The Times'' newspaper. Such was its popularity that in 1914, the supplement became a separate publication selling for one penny. ''TES'' focuses on school-related news and features. It covered higher education until the ''Times Higher Education Supplement'' (now ''Times Higher Education'') was launched as a sister publication in 1971. Today its editor is Jon Severs. Since 1964, an alternative version of the publication, ''TESS'', has been produced for Scotland. An edition for Wales, ''TES Cymru'', was also published between 2004 and 2011. National Mathematics Year
In India and in Nigeria the year 2012 CE was celebrated National Mathematics Year. In India, the National Mathematics Year was a tribute to the mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan who was born on 22 December 1887 and whose 125th birthday falls on 22 December 2012. In Nigeria, the year 2012 was observed as National Mathematics Year as part of the federal government's effort to promote and popularize the study of mathematics. World Maths Day
World Maths Day (''World Math Day'' in American English) is an online international mathematics competition, powered by Mathletics (a learning platform from 3P Learning, the same organisation behind Reading Eggs and Mathseeds). Smaller elements of the wider Mathletics program effectively power the World Maths Day event. The first World Maths Day started in 2007. Despite these origins, the phrases "World Maths Day" and "World Math Day" are trademarks, and not to be confused with other competitions such as the International Mathematical Olympiad or days such as Pi Day. In 2010, World Maths Day created a Guinness World Record for the ''Largest Online Maths Competition''. The next World Maths Day will take place on the 8th of March 2023. NCETM
The National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) is an institution set up in the wake of the Smith Report to improve mathematics teaching in England. It provides strategic leadership for mathematics-specific CPD and aims to raise the professional status of all those engaged in the teaching of mathematics so that the mathematical potential of learners will be fully realised. A mathemagician is a mathematician who is also a magician. The term "mathemagic" is believed to have been introduced by Royal Vale Heath with his 1933 book "Mathemagic"."Mathemagic" by Royal Vale Heath and Jerome Sydney Meyer, Simon and Schuster, New York (1933) The name "mathemagician" was probably first applied to Martin Gardner, but has since been used to describe many mathematician/magicians, including Arthur T.
