Coronado School
Coronado Unified School District (CUSD) is the public school district for the city of Coronado in San Diego County, California. It includes two high schools, one middle school, and two elementary schools as well as several specialized and unconventional schools. It is governed by a five-member elected board. CUSD includes Coronado High School, Coronado Middle School, Silver Strand Elementary, and Village Elementary. Coronado School of the Arts, a nationally recognized public school-within-a-school (conservatory) resides on the high school campus. Crown Preschool, a fee-based school, operates as an inclusion model for some of our special needs children. The CUSD boundaries are coterminous with the City of Coronado. There are approximately 4500 students of K-12 age living in Coronado; 3100 currently attend the Coronado public schools. Full-time equivalent (FTE), or whole time equivalent (WTE), is a unit that indicates the workload of an employee, employed person (or student) in a way that makes workloads or class loads comparable across various contexts. FTE is often used to measure a worker's or student's involvement in a project, or to track cost reductions in an organization. Coronado (Spanish for "Crowned") is a resort city located in San Diego County, California, United States, across the San Diego Bay from downtown San Diego. It was founded in the 1880s and incorporated in 1890. Its population was 24,697 at the 2010 census, up from 24,100 at the 2000 census. Coronado is a tied island which is connected to the mainland by a tombolo (a sandy isthmus) called the Silver Strand. In 1939, the original building was knocked down and rebuilt as part of Franklin Delano Roosevelt's Works Progress Administration. It was renovated again in 1961 and 2006. Coronado School Of The Arts
Coronado School of the Arts (CoSA) is a school-within-a-school located on the campus of Coronado High School in Coronado, California. The school currently enrolls 155 students, of which nearly 70% comes from outside Coronado. CoSA is largely an after-hours program with a focus on the arts, in which students take academic courses at Coronado High School in the morning. The school offers classes in classical and contemporary dance, musical theater and drama, instrumental music, technical theater, visual art, and digital media and filmmaking. It has Ph.D.s on its faculty and what the San Diego Union Tribune calls "a formidable fund-raising auxiliary", the CoSA Foundation. History The idea for the school materialized in 1993.
