The Pride of Iowa Conference (POI ) is a high school athletic conference made up of 10 small schools in southern Iowa, United States. Current members Mount Ayr shares a football team with Diagonal. Nodaway Valley shares a football team with Orient-Macksburg. History The conference was founded in 1987 with six schools: I-35, Wayne, Central Decatur, Mt. Ayr, Southeast Warren, and East Union. For the first 13 years of its history, the conference was quite small and compact. The conference added Nodaway Valley and Martensdale-St. Mary's in 1997, two schools in the same relative area of the state. In 2000 and 2001, the conference underwent a two-year, four-team expansion that more than doubled the geographical area of the conference. Carbon, Iowa
Carbon is a city in Douglas Township, Adams County, Iowa, United States. The population was 36 at the 2020 census. Note that other places in Iowa have been named Carbon: there was a Carbon Post Office in Davis County, six miles south of Ottumwa, that operated for less than a year in 1881. There was also a Carbon Post Office in Webster County, three miles south-east of Fort Dodge, that operated from 1870 to 1872. A post office on the latter location was known as Gypsum from 1902 to 1905. History Carbon is located on the Middle Nodaway River. This was home to the Pottawatomie, Oto and Iowa Indian tribes, until the treaty of 1851 forced their removal to Kansas or Indian Territory, now known as Oklahoma. New Market Community School District
New Market Community School District was a school district headquartered in New Market, Iowa, United States. History In 1882 the school opened in the M.E. Church, and that year it moved to a school building with four rooms. A five-room school house was built after a 1900 fire destroyed the initial location. The 10th grade was established in 1912. Lohn Liggett gave support to a brick schoolhouse built in the 1921–1922 school year. New Market schools consolidated with several rural schools on November 12, 1958.
