Cornellana is one of 28 parishes (administrative divisions) in Salas, a municipality within the province and autonomous community of Asturias, in northern Spain. San Salvador De Cornellana
Monasterio de San Salvador in Cornellana is a monastery located in Cornellana, municipality of Salas, Asturias, Salas in Asturias, Spain. Consisting of several Romanesque architecture, Romanesque style buildings which started to be built in the 11th century, the monastery was founded by Infante, infanta Cristina Bermúdez, daughter of Bermudo II of León and his first wife Queen Velasquita Ramírez. She founded the monastery in 1024 after the death of her husband, infante Ordoño Ramírez "the Blind", son of Ramiro III of León and his wife Sancha Gómez. Cristina lived in the monastery as a nun and was buried there. After her death, the monastery was divided among her heirs, her sons and daughters; Alfonso, Aldonza, Ordoño, and Pelaya Ordóñez. A great-grandson of Cristina, the powerful Count Suero Vermúdez in 1120 donated the monastery to the Cluny Abbey, Abbey of Cluny and then to the Cathedral of San Salvador, Oviedo, Cathedral of Oviedo. Salas, Asturias
Salas (also known as San Martin de Salas) is a town and ''concejo'' (municipality) in the Principality of Asturias. It lies on the road from San Sebastián to Santiago de Compostela, and on a small subtributary of the river Narcea. It is bordered on the north by Valdés, Cudillero and Pravia, to south by Belmonte de Miranda, to the east by Pravia, Candamo and Grado, and to the west by Tineo and Valdés. Salas is a mountainous region in which coal-mining and agriculture are the principal industries. The products of this region are sent for export to Cudillero, a small harbour on the Bay of Biscay. Salas is well known as a tourist point and as the birthplace of Fernando de Valdés y Salas. Camino Primitivo
The Primitive Way ( es, Camino Primitivo, link=no) is one of the paths of the Camino de Santiago. It begins in the old Asturian capital of Oviedo and runs west to Lugo and then south to Santiago de Compostela joining the more popular French Way in Melide for the last two hiking days. According to the Confraternity of St James, the Camino Primitivo is approximately 320 km (199 miles) in length. Middle Ages The Camino Primitivo is thought of as the "Original Way" because it is reportedly the path taken by the first reported pilgrim, Alfonso II of Asturias (842), nicknamed the Chaste ( es, el Casto, link=no). The King left his capital, Oviedo, in the year 814 to travel to the present location of the city of Santiago de Compostela, at the time known as Mount Libredón. Alfonso built the original shrine to Saint James on the spot of the discovery.
