Alain Corbin (born January 12, 1936 in Lonlay-l'Abbaye) is a French historian. He is a specialist of the 19th century in France and in microhistory. Trained in the Annales School, Corbin's work has moved away from the large-scale collective structures studied by Fernand Braudel towards a history of sensibilities which is closer to Lucien Febvre's history of ''mentalités''. George Corbin Washington
George Corbin Washington (August 20, 1789 – July 17, 1854) was a United States Congressman from the third and fifth districts of Maryland, serving four terms from 1827 to 1833, and 1835 to 1837. Early life and education Washington was born at Haywood Farms near Oak Grove in Westmoreland County, Virginia, the son of William Augustine Washington and his first wife Jane Washington. He attended Phillips Academy and Harvard University, studied law, but devoted himself to agricultural pursuits on his plantation in Maryland. Alfred Corbin
Alfred Valentin Corbin (26 February 1916 at Clichy, France; 28 July 1943 in Plötzensee Prison, Berlin) was a French communist sympathiser, editor and reviewer, commercial director, and resistance fighter. Before the war, Corbin ran a poultry feed business with his brother. After serving in the French Foreign Legion in the lead up to the war, Corbin was recruited by Soviet intelligence to run a black market trading company. In 1941, Corbin worked as a director of the Paris-based, Simex black market trading company, that was in reality a cover for a Soviet espionage organisation, later known as the Red Orchestra ("Rote Kapelle"). Life Before the war, Corbin lived in an apartment on the 17th arrondissement of Paris along with his wife Marie Corbin and his 16-year-old daughter Denise. Abel Corbin
Abel Rathbone Corbin (May 24, 1808 – March 28, 1881) was an American newspaper editor, financier, and the husband of Virginia Grant, sister of President Ulysses S. Grant. In the 1830s, he edited the ''Missouri Argus'' of St. Louis, the official Democratic party organ of Missouri. He was involved in the Black Friday stock market crash of September 24, 1869. Corbin was born in Otsego, New York to Eliakim Lyon Corbin and Lodama (née Rathbone) Corbin. He married on May 13, 1869, in Covington, Kentucky, to Virginia Grant as his second wife. They had one child, Jennie Corbin, who died as an infant. Abel's first marriage, to Elizabeth (née Lewis) McAllister (1794–1868), also had no surviving issue. Joseph Louis Corbin
Joseph Louis Corbin (2 February 1797 – November 1859) was a French general who took command of the successful attack that closed the Siege of Constantine in 1837. He also served in the 1849 expedition to Rome, and helped restore calm in Paris after the coup of 2 December 1851. Early years Joseph-Louis Corbin was born in Rennes, Ille-et-Vilaine, on 2 February 1792, son of a naval lieutenant. His father continued to serve in the navy under the French First Republic and the First French Empire. He died of wounds received during the Battle of Bautzen. Joseph-Louis Corbin studied at the Lycée Napoleon. He graduated in 1810 at the age of seventeen and joined the imperial guard. Robert Corbin
Robert Herman Orlando Corbin (15 February 1948) is a Guyanese politician who was the Leader of the Opposition People's National Congress (PNC) between 2003 and 2012. Born in Linden, Guyana, Corbin worked for the Youth Ministry of the Presbyterian Church before being educated in social work and law at the University of Guyana and the Hugh Wooding Law School. He worked as a social worker from 1966 to 1977 and during this time joined the PNC youth arm, the Young Socialist Movement before taking up a seat on the party's Central Executive Committee. Corbin, who was first elected to the National Assembly of Guyana in 1973, became one of the leading lights in the PNC, serving the party as Senior Vice Chairman and General Secretary as well as holding a number of government ministries, including the office of Deputy Prime Minister from 1985 to 1992.
