Cora Berliner
Cora Berliner (born 23 January 1890 in Hannover, murdered 1942 most likely in Maly Trostenets) was an economist and social scientist and a victim of the Nazi regime. She was a pioneer of social work. Life She was the fifth and youngest child of Jewish business training school director Manfred Berliner. She had the customary education for girls of her class. After graduation as an external student of a boy's secondary school, she studied mathematics, political, and social science at the universities in Berlin and Heidelberg, graduating in 1916 with honors. The theme of her dissertation was "The organization of Jewish youth in Germany: a contribution to the classification of youth care and the youth movement." From 1919 she worked for the municipal government in Berlin-Schöneberg, and from 1910-1924 served as a deputy with the Association of Jewish Youth Clubs, for whom she later served as Business Manager and Executive Director in Heidelberg. Maly Trostenets Extermination Camp
Maly Trostenets (Maly Trascianiec, , "Little Trostenets") is a village near Minsk in Belarus, formerly the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic. During Nazi Germany's occupation of the area during World War II (when the Germans referred to it as ''Reichskommissariat Ostland''), the village became the location of a Nazi extermination site. Throughout 1942, Jews from Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia were taken by train to Maly Trostinets to be lined up in front of the pits and were shot. From the summer of 1942, mobile gas vans were also used. According to Yad Vashem, the Jews of Minsk were murdered and buried in Maly Trostinets and in another village, Bolshoi Trostinets, between 28 and 31 July 1942 and on 21 October 1943. Manfred Berliner
Manfred Berliner (born 1853 in Hannover; died 1931) was a German business teacher. Life He was the fifth child of textile merchant Samuel Berliner and brother of Emil Berliner (inventor of the gramophone), Joseph Berliner, and Jacob Berliner. After a merchant apprenticeship, military service in the Franco-Prussian war, and work in bookkeeping, he initially managed membership of the Commercial Association. He then became a business teacher and in 1878 founded his "Business Teaching Institute" (Handels-Lehr-Institut) in Hannover, which later became "Berliner's Advanced Business School." The school taught mathematics, bookkeeping, trade and exchange, correspondence, and stenography. In 1903, the school was officially accredited as a vocational school. Alice Salomon (19 April 1872, in Berlin – 30 August 1948, in New York City) was a German social reformer and pioneer of social work as an academic discipline. Her role was so important to German social work that the ''Deutsche Bundespost'' (German post office) issued a commemorative postage stamp about her in 1989.
