Copernicus Foundation For Polish Astronomy
The Copernicus Foundation for Polish Astronomy ( pl, Fundacja Astronomii Polskiej im. Mikołaja Kopernika) is a Polish scientific foundation which aim is to support Polish astronomy by: financing research, founding stipends, propagation of an astronomical knowledge in the society and activation and stimulation of the astronomical community. The Copernicus foundation is headquartered in Warsaw, Poland and Prof. Michał Jaroszyński is the chairman of the organization. The Copernicus Foundation is a publisher of an Acta Astronomica - a peer-reviewed scientific journal covering astronomy and astrophysics. History The organization was founded in May 1990. The first president was Prof. Marcin Kubiak, and the vice-president - dr hab. Tomasz Chlebowski. ''Acta Astronomica'' is a quarterly peer-reviewed scientific journal covering astronomy and astrophysics. It was established in 1925 by the Polish astronomer Tadeusz Banachiewicz. Marcin Antoni Kubiak is a Polish astrophysicist, who obtained his professorship title on 25 April 1994. Member of Committee of Astronomy of the Polish Academy of Sciences, a member of the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE), co-discoverer (together with OGLE team) of many extrasolar planetary systems (e.g. OGLE-2006-BLG-109L). Author of widely used academic book for astronomy students "Stars and interstellar matter" ( :pl:Gwiazdy i materia międzygwiazdowa). Krzysztof Stanek
Krzysztof Stanek is an observational astrophysicist and Professor and University Distinguished Scholar at Ohio State University. He was named a University Distinguished Scholar in 2018. His research focus is on the explosive deaths of massive stars. In 2022, Stanek was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. He won the Beatrice M. Tinsley Prize along with Christopher Kochanek in 2020 for their work on the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN) project.
