Contra Viento y Marea (English title: ''Against all odds'') is a Venezuelan telenovela written by Leonardo Padrón and produced by Venevisión in 1997. This telenovela lasted 125 episodes and was distributed internationally by Venevisión International. Guillermo Dávila and Ana Karina Manco starred as the main protagonists with Mimí Lazo, Carolina Perpetuo and Carlos Olivier as the antagonists. Telenovela
A telenovela is a type of a television serial drama or soap opera produced primarily in Latin America. The word combines ''tele'' (for "television") and ''novela'' (meaning "novel"). Similar drama genres around the world include '' teleserye'' (Philippines), '' téléroman'' (Canada, specifically Quebec), and ''sinetron'' (Indonesia). Commonly described using the American colloquialism Spanish soap opera, many telenovelas share some stylistic and thematic similarities to the soap opera familiar to the English-speaking world. The significant difference is their series run length; telenovelas tell one self-contained story, typically within the span of a year or less whereas soap operas tend to have intertwined storylines told during indefinite, continuing runs. Gigi Zancheta
Gigliola (Gigi) Zanchetta Pirella (born April 3, 1966) is a Venezuelan actress. Life and career Zanchetta has made her television debut in the telenovela '' Cristal''; she later specialized in the genre, appearing in over 20 telenovelas, among them '' Primavera'' alongside Fernando Carrillo and '' Cara Sucia''. In the mid-1990s she has sparked controversy for being the first Venezuelan celebrity to pose nude for a magazine, appearing in the cover of the Spanish magazine ''Interviú''. She was also active in films and in theatre. Her last telenovela role was in 2012; since then she moved to Spain with her son, leaving the entertainment industry. A former backer of Chavismo and of Nicolás Maduro, she eventually publicly regretted about her support to him and attacked him on various occasions. Venevisión () is a Venezuelan free-to-air television channel and one of Venezuela's largest television networks, owned by the Cisneros Media division of Grupo Cisneros. History The company's roots date back to June 1, 1953, with the establishment of Televisora Mirandina Independiente S.A, (Televisa), which operated the channel 4 in Caracas and channel 5 in Maracaibo. When TELEVISA went bankrupt in 1960, Diego Cisneros purchased the remaining assets of the company.
