Gaels
The Gaels ( ; ga, Na Gaeil ; gd, Na Gàidheil ; gv, Ny Gaeil ) are an ethnolinguistic group native to Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man in the British Isles. They are associated with the Gaelic languages: a branch of the Celtic languages comprising Irish, Manx and Scottish Gaelic. Gaelic language and culture originated in Ireland, extending to Dál Riata in western Scotland. In antiquity, the Gaels traded with the Roman Empire and also raided Roman Britain. In the Middle Ages, Gaelic culture became dominant throughout the rest of Scotland and the Isle of Man. There was also some Gaelic settlement in Wales, as well as cultural influence through Celtic Christianity. In the Viking Age, small numbers of Vikings raided and settled in Gaelic lands, becoming the Norse-Gaels. In the 9th century, Dál Riata and Pictland merged to form the Gaelic Kingdom of Alba. Edward Connelly (December 30, 1859 – November 21, 1928) was an American stage and film actor of the silent era. Biography Connelly had a Broadway theater career going back to the Victorian era. His Broadway credits include ''The Wild Duck'' (1918), ''The Great Adventure'' (1913), ''A Good Little Devil'' (1913), ''The Dollar Princess'' (1909), ''Twiddle-Twaddle'' (1906), ''Bird Center'' (1904), ''Babette'' (1903), and ''The Belle of New York'' (1900). __NOTOC__ Kevin Connelly is an impressionist, comedian, and after dinner speaker who is probably best known for his role on the popular BBC radio and television programme '' Dead Ringers''. Connelly was born in Middlesbrough, England and was educated at St Mary's Roman Catholic College in Middlesbrough, where he would mimic his fellow students and teachers. Later while working in the Cleveland Tontine restaurant business, he would entertain his customers with unrehearsed cameo pieces. This led directly to engagements as an after-dinner speaker. Connelly lives in North Yorkshire, where he spends much of his time travelling to London to work at the BBC on ''Dead Ringers''. Karen Marie Connelly (born 12 March 1969) is a Canadian travel writer, novelist and poet who has written extensively about her experiences living in Greece, Thailand and Canada. Life and work Connelly was born in Calgary, Alberta. At seventeen, she lived in a Thai village thanks to a Rotary exchange scholarship. She returned to Canada a year later. At nineteen, she left for Spain, where she lived almost two years. Having no work visa, she supported herself by, among other things, teaching English as a second language. In her spare time, she wrote about her experiences and took photographs with which to illustrate her writing. She also reworked the letters and journals, which she had written in Thailand, into a manuscript that was to become ''Touch the Dragon'' by Karen Connelly. Joe Connelly is an American writer, best known for his first novel, ''Bringing Out the Dead'', which was made into an eponymous film. A native of New York City, he now lives in the Adirondacks with his wife and family. Biography Connelly was born in St Clare’s Hospital in Hell's Kitchen, where his mother worked and where she had met his father years before (at a dance in the basement). They were working-class, and he was raised in Warwick, New York. Having secured a scholarship to become the first member of his family to go to college, after three years he dropped out of Colgate University and, before publishing his first novel, worked as a paramedic for nine years, back at St. Clare's. He wrote in his spare time over that period, in a small flat in the Upper West Side and while living in Ireland and travelling in Eastern Europe for a considerable period. Joe Connelly (born 1965) is a barbershop quartet lead singer, competition judge, chorus director, and full-time coach for various barbershop quartets. Connelly is the first man ever to have become a Barbershop Harmony Society International Championship gold medalist four times, first with Interstate Rivals in 1987 at the age of 22, then with Keepsake in 1992, with Platinum in 2000, and with Old School in 2011. In 2000, he had already become the first person to win the gold medal three times. Quartet-mate Tony DeRosa joined Connelly as a four-time gold medalist in 2017 (in Keepsake, Platinum, Max Q and Main Street).
