Connecticut Yankees (soccer)
The Connecticut Yankees were a soccer team based in Hartford, Connecticut and played their home matches at Dillon Stadium. They played in the American Soccer League for seven seasons, from 1972 to 1978, when they folded. The team was established in 1972 as the Northeast United. They changed their name to the Connecticut Wildcats in 1973, and adopted the name Connecticut Yankees after the 1974 season. During their run they advanced to the playoffs once, in 1977, and were knocked out in the first round. Dillon Stadium
Trinity Health Stadium (formerly Dillon Stadium) is a multipurpose facility in Hartford, Connecticut. It has been host to concerts and sporting events. It was formerly the home of the New England Nightmare of the Women's Football Alliance (WFA). It is now the home of USL Championship club Hartford Athletic. The UConn Huskies men's and women's soccer teams played a majority of their 2019 matches at Dillon Stadium after starting their seasons at Al-Marzook Field in West Hartford, Connecticut. Sports Football Dillon Stadium was built in 1935. Formerly named Municipal Stadium, it was renamed in 1956 after James H. Dillon, the City's recreation director. Roberto Taylor
Roberto Taylor (born 28 August 1949) is a retired Guatemalan soccer midfielder who played one season in the American Soccer League and one in the North American Soccer League. Club career Taylor grew up in Guatemala where he played for Tipografía Nacional and Cementos Novella. United States In 1971, he entered South Central Community College, but did not play soccer there. In 1973, he transferred to the University of New Haven where he played for Joe Machnik. He played 26 games for New Haven, scoring 25 goals and adding 8 assists. In 1976, he signed with the Connecticut Yankees of the American Soccer League. He finished the season with fourteen goals, putting him fourth in the league in scoring. He also garnered a Rookie of the Year recognition. Hartford, Connecticut
Hartford is the capital city of the U.S. state of Connecticut. It was the seat of Hartford County until Connecticut disbanded county government in 1960. It is the core city in the Greater Hartford metropolitan area.
