Geography Goshen is in central Litchfield County and is bordered to the east by the city of Torrington. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town of Goshen has a total area of , of which are land and , or 3.44%, are water. A large portion of the Mohawk State Forest is located in the town. The Appalachian Trail formerly passed through the town until it was re-routed west of the Housatonic River. Winsted is a census-designated place and an incorporated city in Litchfield County, Connecticut, United States. It is part of the town of Winchester. The population of Winsted was 7,712 at the 2010 census, out of 11,242 in the entire town of Winchester. History Settled in 1750, the city of Winsted was formed at the junction of the Mad River and Still River and was one of the first mill towns in Connecticut. Manufactured products started with scythes at the Winsted Manufacturing Company in 1792. The city is within the town of Winchester, and its name derives from the fact that it is the business center for the towns of Winchester and Barkhamsted. Route description Route 272 begins at an intersection with Route 4 in West Torrington and heads northwest along the West Branch Naugatuck River and Hall Meadow Brook to Goshen. In Goshen, it continues northwest along Hall Meadow Brook past Hall Meadow State Park and across the northeastern corner of the town to Norfolk.
