Route description Route 165 begins at an intersection with Route 2 in eastern Norwich and heads northeast into Preston. In Preston, it continues east through the town into Griswold. In Griswold, it continues generally east-northeast across Pachaug Pond and Glasgo Pond before continuing into Voluntown. In Voluntown, it heads northeast to overlap Route 49 and Route 138 in a triple concurrency. It turns east with Routes 49 and 138, then continues east in a concurrency with Route 138. Route 165 is a numbered state highway in the U.S. state of Rhode Island. Its western terminus is a continuation of Connecticut Route 165 at the Connecticut border, and its eastern terminus is at Rhode Island Route 3 in Exeter. It runs entirely on Ten Rod Road, where one rod is 16.5 feet and so ten rods is 165 feet, matching the route number. Route description Route 165 enters Rhode Island on a causeway over Beach Pond. It travels east through the woods along Ten Rod Road. Shortly before its eastern end, the highway passes beneath Interstate 95, however Route 165 does not connect directly to the Interstate. Route 49 is a Connecticut state highway from Route 2 in Stonington to Route 14A in Sterling, in the southeast part of the state. It is a scenic route that runs through the Pachaug State Forest. Route description Route 49 begins as North Street at an intersection with Route 2 in the northeastern corner of the town of Stonington. It proceeds north into the town of North Stonington as Pendleton Hill Road, intersecting with Interstate 95 and Route 184. Route 49 continues north, soon intersecting Route 216. Voluntown is a town in New London County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 2,570 at the 2020 census. Voluntown was part of Windham County from 1726 to 1881. The town was named for the English volunteers in the 1675 Indian wars (King Philip's War) who stayed to fight "and went not away".
