Community Democratic League
The Community Democratic League (''Lega Democratica Comunitaria'', LDC) was a Venetist and Christian-socialist political party active in Veneto. The party was founded in July 2011 by some splinters of Liga Veneta–Lega Nord (LV–LN) led by Davide Lovat. Lovat had been an activist of Liga Veneta in the province of Vicenza for 18 years before becoming a leading voice against the party leadership. A keen Venetist and left-winger, in February 2011 he was expelled from the party. Some months on, along with other splinters from LV–LN, Lovat started organizing the LDC. The name "Community Democratic League" was chosen by Lovat, who has studied political science and theology, as a reference both to the "National Democratic League" of Romolo Murri, a radical priest, and the National League for Democracy of Nobel Peace Prize Aung San Suu Kyi. Venetian Nationalism
Venetian nationalism (also Venetism, from the Venetian/Italian name, ''venetismo'') is a nationalist, but primarily regionalist, political movement active mostly in Veneto, Italy, as well as in other parts of the former Republic of Venice. Generally speaking, Venetists promote the distinct Venetian identity and the rediscovery of the Republic of Venice's heritage, traditions, culture, and language and/or demand more autonomy or even independence for Veneto from Italy. According to journalist Paolo Possamai, Venetism is "the strain of Veneto and Venetians toward the recognition of their identity and autonomy". Venetism is a broad movement, which definitely includes Venetist parties, notably Liga Veneta, but also encompasses people from several political parties. Veneto State (''Veneto Stato'', VS) was a Venetist political party active in Veneto and eastern Lombardy. The party's goal to achieve full political independence for the former territories of the Venetian Republic from Italy through a referendum. VS had a handful of municipal councillors and was once represented in the Regional Council of Veneto. After the exit of the libertarian faction led by Lodovico Pizzati, Paolo Bernardini and Gianluca Busato in December 2011 and the formation of Venetian Independence in May 2012, VS was seen as the communitarian wing of the Venetian independence movement. I Love Italy (''Io amo l'Italia'', ALI), originally Protagonists for Christian Europe (''Protagonisti per l'Europa Cristiana''), was a Christian-democratic, national-conservative and Eurosceptic political party in Italy. Magdi Cristiano Allam ( ar, مجدي علام Majdī ʿAllām; born 22 April 1952), is an Egyptian-Italian journalist and politician, noted for his criticism of Islam and his articles on the relations between Western culture and the Islamic world. Allam converted from Islam to Roman Catholicism during the Vatican's 2008 Easter vigil service presided over by Pope Benedict XVI.
