Commonwealth Statistician
The Australian Statistician is the head of the Australian Bureau of Statistics. On 18 June 1906, the first ''Statistician of the Commonwealth of Australia'' was appointed to carry out the provisions of the ''Census and Statistics Act 1905''. Later in the same year the Commonwealth Bureau of Census and Statistics was formed (renamed the Australian Bureau of Statistics in 1975). Timothy Augustine Coghlan was offered the position in December 1905, but had to decline due to his obligations to the New South Wales government. Australian Bureau Of Statistics
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is the independent statutory agency of the Australian Government responsible for statistical collection and analysis and for giving evidence-based advice to federal, state and territory governments. The ABS collects and analyses statistics on economic, population, environmental and social issues, publishing many on their website. The ABS also operates the national Census of Population and Housing that occurs every five years. History In 1901, statistics were collected by each state for their individual use. While attempts were made to coordinate collections through an annual Conference of Statisticians, it was quickly realized that a National Statistical Office would be required to develop nationally comparable statistics. Jack O'Neill (statistician)
John Patrick O'Neill (1910 – 11 October 1998) was an Australian public servant, who served as Australia's Commonwealth Statistician (head of the Bureau of Statistics) from 1970 to 1975, and Australian Statistician from 1975 to 1976. O'Neill was born in Wynyard, Tasmania where he attended primary school, later boarding at St Virgil's College in Hobart. In 1927, he began working at the Hobart office of the Commonwealth Bureau of Census and Statistics, and began studying for a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Tasmania which he discontinued due to illness. David Gruen (economist)

David Wayne Kalisch (born 9 August 1960) is an Australian economist and public servant. From 2014 to 2019, he was the Australian Statistician in charge of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). Brian Pink
Brian Pink was the Australian Statistician, the head of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), between 5 March 2007 and 12 January 2014. Prior to September 1999, Brian Pink was ABS's Statistical Support Group Manager, when he was appointed as the Government Statistician for New Zealand and Chief Executive of Statistics New Zealand. Dennis Trewin
Dennis John Trewin (born 14 August 1946) is an Australian former public servant, who was the Australian Statistician, the head of the Australian Bureau of Statistics, between July 2000 and January 2007. Trewin joined the ABS in 1966 as a statistics cadet. Between 1992 and 1995 he was the Deputy Government Statistician in Statistics New Zealand and a Deputy Australian Statistician from 1995 to 2000, when he was appointed as the Australian Statistician. The Treasurer of Australia (or Federal Treasurer) is a high ranking official and senior minister of the Crown in the Government of Australia who is the head of the Ministry of the Treasury which is responsible for government expenditure and for collecting revenue. William Patrick McLennan (26 January 1942 – 19 March 2022) was an Australian statistician who was Director of the Central Statistical Office (CSO) of the United Kingdom and Australian Statistician, head of the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Ian Castles (20 February 1935 – 2 August 2010) was Secretary of the Australian Government Department of Finance (1979–86), the Australian Statistician (1986–94), and a Visiting Fellow at the Asia Pacific School of Economics and Government at the Australian National University, Canberra. Roy Cameron (statistician)
Roy James Cameron (11 March 19233 October 2006) was an Australian public servant and diplomat. He was the Australian Statistician from 1977 to 1985. Life and career Cameron was born in Port Pirie, South Australia on 11 March 1923. He studied at the University of Adelaide, graduating with first class honours from a Bachelor of Economics course in 1948. Sir Timothy Augustine Coghlan (9 June 1856 – 30 April 1926) was an Australian statistician, engineer, economic historian and diplomat.
