Committee For Justice
The Committee for Justice is a Northern Ireland Assembly committee established to advise, assist and scrutinise the work of the Department of Justice. The Committee undertakes a scrutiny, policy development and consultation role with respect to the Department of Justice and plays a key role in the consideration and development of legislation. The committee was created following the devolution of policing and justice on 12 April 2010, as a result of the Hillsborough Castle Agreement, agreed under the premiership of Gordon Brown on 5 February 2010. The Department of Justice (Irish: ''An Roinn Dlí agus Cirt'', Ulster-Scots: ''Männystrie o tha Laa'') is a government department in the Northern Ireland Executive, which was established on 12 April 2010 as part of the devolution of justice matters to the Northern Ireland Assembly. The position of Minister for Justice is currently vacant. The department's Permanent Secretary is Richard Pengelly. It combines the previous work of the Northern Ireland Office and the Ministry of Justice, within the United Kingdom Government, which were respectively responsible for justice policy and the administration of courts in Northern Ireland. Hillsborough Castle Agreement
The Hillsborough Agreement was an agreement reached in Northern Ireland that allowed the devolution of policing and justice powers to the Northern Ireland Executive. The agreement was made on 5 February 2010 and included an agreement on controversial parades and on implementing outstanding matters from the St Andrews Agreement. Additionally, it reworked the way in which the Minister of Justice is selected to be chosen with cross-community support rather than through the D'Hondt method used for most other ministers. It was signed at and named after Hillsborough Castle, Hillsborough, County Down. The Agreements of Sunningdale, Belfast and St Andrews were also negotiated in those places. Paul Givan
Paul Jonathan Givan (born 12 October 1981) is a Unionist politician from Northern Ireland representing the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). Givan served as First Minister of Northern Ireland from June 2021 to February 2022, the youngest person to hold that office. Givan has served as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Lagan Valley since 2010. He served as the Minister for Communities in the Northern Ireland Executive under First Minister Arlene Foster from 2016 to 2017. Gordon Dunne
Gordon Dunne (4 April 1959 – 20 June 2021) was a Unionist politician from Northern Ireland representing the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). Dunne was a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly (MLA) from 2011 to 2021, representing North Down. Born in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Dunne was first elected to North Down Borough Council in the 1981 local elections representing the Holywood area. He was re-elected in 1985 and 1989. Emma Rogan
Emma Rogan (born 27 June 1986) is a Sinn Féin politician from Loughinisland, County Down, in Northern Ireland. She attended St Colmcille's High School, Crossgar. She served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the South Down constituency in the Northern Ireland Assembly from June 2017 to 2022.
