Commins Coch
Commins Coch is a small village on the A470 in the county of Powys in Wales. It is part of the Glantwymyn community. Commins Coch is notable for the narrow bridge set at right angles that crosses the Afon Twymyn. The size and angle of the bridge restricts all traffic to crossing one vehicle at a time and it can be a serious problem for articulated lorries to cross. Great Western Railway
The Great Western Railway (GWR) was a British railway company that linked London with the southwest, west and West Midlands of England and most of Wales. It was founded in 1833, received its enabling Act of Parliament on 31 August 1835 and ran its first trains in 1838 with the initial route completed between London and Bristol in 1841. The A470 (also named the Cardiff to Glan Conwy Trunk Road) is a trunk road in Wales. It is the country's longest road at and links the capital Cardiff on the south coast to Llandudno on the north coast. While previously one had to navigate the narrow roads of Llanidloes and Dolgellau, both these market towns are now bypassed due to extensive road modernisation. Cemmes Road Railway Station
Cemmes Road was a railway station on the Newtown and Machynlleth Railway (N&MR) in Mid-Wales, serving the village of Cemmaes Road. The N&MR passed through the Cambrian Mountains in the deep Talerddig cutting, which formed the summit of the line. From there it descended towards the coast, reaching the Dyfi valley at the village of Cemmaes Road, where there was a junction with the Mawddwy Railway. The N&MR continued west to . The Cemmaes railway station, next station, north of Cemmes Road on the Mawddwy Railway, served the village of Cemmaes. To avoid confusion with that station, the N&MR's English people, English backers named the junction station using an Anglicised version of the village's Welsh language name. Cemmes Road station closed as a result of the Beeching Axe in 1965, although the station building still exists as a private house. Newtown And Machynlleth Railway
The Newtown and Machynlleth Railway was a railway company in Wales. It built a line from a junction with the Llanidloes and Newtown Railway near Caersws to the market town of Machynlleth; the line opened in 1862. Newtown had become the hub of railway lines in the district. Machynlleth was an important town, and extension from there to Aberystwyth and to the coast northward was in the minds of the promoters. The topography of the district was challenging, and a practicable line had to be routed north of the most mountainous region, and climb steeply. There was a summit at Talerddig, above sea level; a rock cutting was made at the summit, to mitigate the climb on the approaches.
