Tomer Bar
Aluf Tomer Bar ( he, תומר בר; born 1969) is an Israeli general and current commander of the Israeli Air Force. Before his selection to succeed Amikam Norkin as commander of the IAF, Bar served as head of the IDF Force Design Directorate, a rejiggered version of what was once the Planning Directorate. Biography Bar was born in 1969, one of six children of Erela and Natan Bar. He enlisted in the IDF in 1987 and completed pilot course with honors in 1989. He served as a F-16 fighter pilot with the 110, 116 and 140 Squadrons. After a period of study in the United States, he was assigned as an F-15 pilot with the 133 Squadron in 1998. From 1999 to 2002, he served as head of the Operations Branch at the Air Force Headquarters. Aluf Amos Lapidot ( he, עמוס לפידות; &lrm); (1934 – November 20, 2019) was an Israeli fighter pilot who served as the tenth Commander of the Israeli Air Force, a position he held from 1982 to 1987. From 1998 to 2001 he was the President of Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. Biography Lapidot was born in Kfar Saba, Israel, in 1934, and grew up in Havatzelet HaSharon. He initially enlisted in the IDF Artillery Corps, before eventually joining the nascent Israeli Air Force, and completed the IAF pilots' course in 1954. He flew the P-51 Mustang, Gloster Meteor, and Dassault Ouragan. Lapidot held a BA in mathematics from Tel Aviv University, and a master's degree in financial systems engineering from Stanford University. Aluf Amikam Norkin ( he, עמיקם נורקין; born December 20, 1966) is an Israeli general, who served as commander of the Israeli Air Force from 2017 to 2022. Before his selection to succeed Amir Eshel as commander of the IAF, Norkin served as head of the IDF Planning Directorate. Biography Norkin was born in Beit She'arim to olim of Romanian-Jewish origin. He was drafted in the IDF Armour Corps in 1984, and graduated from the IAF Flight Academy as a fighter pilot in July 1987. In 1988, he joined the "Knights of the Twin Tail" Squadron and became the youngest F-15 pilot in the world. In the beginning of the 90s, he flew the ''Kurnass'' 2000 variant of the F-4 Phantom II out of Hatzerim, and participated in bombing sorties during Operation Accountability. Amir Eshel ( he, אמיר אשל; born 1959) is a former Israeli general who served as commander of the Israeli Air Force and currently serves as Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Defense. Biography Amir Eshel was born in Jaffa. His father Yehezekel (Hezi) Eshel (originally Batat), was born in Iraq and immigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1936. He fought in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War in the Givati Brigade. His mother Edna was a Holocaust survivor from Russia. Eshel is married and a father of three. He holds a degree in economics from Auburn University at Montgomery, Alabama, and a degree in political science from the University of Haifa’s National Security Studies Center. Ido Nehoshtan
Aluf Ido Nehoshtan, also Nehushtan ( he, עידו נחושתן; born 1957) is a retired general in the Israel Defense Forces. He replaced Eliezer Shkedi on 4 April 2008 as Air Force Commander until he himself was replaced by Amir Eshel on 10 May 2012 upon his retirement from 37 years of service. Aluf Eliezer Shkedy (Hebrew: אליעזר שקדי; born 16 August 1957) is a retired general in the Israel Defense Forces, who served as commander of the Israeli Air Force from 4 April 2004 until 13 May 2008. He is also a former CEO of El Al, the flag carrier of Israel. Shkedy was born in Israel to parents of both Ashkenazi and Sephardic descent; his father was a Hungarian-Jewish Holocaust survivor, whereas his mother was an Egyptian-Jewish immigrant. Shkedy, a resident of Yehud-Monosson, was born in Israel and after graduating from high school in Kfar Saba he was conscripted into the IDF in 1975. Dan Halutz ( he, דן חלוץ, ; born August 7, 1948) is an Israeli Air Force lieutenant general and former Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces and commander of the Israeli Air Force. Aluf (ret.) Herzl Bodinger ( he, הרצל בודינגר; born 1943) is a retired general in the Israel Defense Forces and a former Commander in Chief of the Israeli Air Force. Avihu Ben-Nun
Avihu Ben-Nun ( he, אביהו בן-נון; born 24 December 1939) was the 11th commander of the Israeli Air Force between 1987 and 1992. Biography Ben-Nun enlisted in the Israeli Air Force in 1957 and became a fighter pilot. In 1963 he began flying the Dassault Mirage III, yet on the eve of the Six-Day War became deputy commander of 116 "Defenders of the South" squadron, flying Dassault Mysteres. He assumed temporary command of the squadron after its commander was forced to eject early in the war. After the war he was assigned to 119 Squadron, which at the time was based at Tel Nof Airbase.
