Andy Comerford
Andrew James Comerford (born 10 October 1972) is an Irish retired hurling manager and former player who played for Kilkenny Senior Championship club O'Loughlin Gaels. He played for the London and Kilkenny senior hurling teams for nearly a decade, during which time he usually lined out at midfield or centre-forward. Comerford began his hurling career at junior club level with O'Loughlin Gaels. After a brief spell with the Brothers Pearse club in London, he returned to O'Loughlin Gaels and enjoyed his first success as a member of the 1996 Kilkenny Intermediate Championship-winning team and promotion to the top flight of Kilkenny hurling. Comerford later captained the club to the Leinster Club Championship in 2003 as well as two Kilkenny Senior Championships in 2001 and 2003. Martin Comerford
Martin Timothy Comerford (born 9 November 1978) is an Irish hurler who played as a centre-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in London, at an early age Comerford went to St. John's Boys' National School in Ballybough Street, Kilkenny. Comerford went on to attend St. Kieran's College but was overlooked for the hurling team. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-one when he first linked up with the Kilkenny under-21 team. He joined the senior panel during the 2001 championship. Comerford later became a regular member of the starting fifteen, and won six All-Ireland medals, eight Leinster medals and four National League medals on the field of play. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. At club level Comerford is a two-time Leinster medallist with O'Loughlin Gaels. A longtime figure in Liverpool's underworld, Comerford dominated criminal activity in the Merseyside area, spending over 34 years in prison during the course of his criminal career. Dr. Joseph Bernard Comerford (18 December 1958 – 18 August 2000) was a British engineer and one of the UN's leading irrigation experts. He played a critical role in shaping the international humanitarian response to the Great Lakes Crisis at one of its most turbulent moments. He was responsible for providing clean water and sanitation to over a million people. On 18 August 2000, Comerford was found dead in his hotel room while on a mission, having been sent to the Congo ahead of 5,000 UN peacekeeping troops to assess structural damage caused by an occupying force of soldiers backed by neighbouring Rwanda. John Comerford
John Comerford (1770–25 January 1832) was a miniature painter. Early life John Comerford was born in Kilkenny around 1770, though some sources put his date of birth as early as around 1762. His father was a local flax-dresser, and Comerford grew up opposite the Tholsel. Having gained some knowledge of art from copying the pictures in the collection of the Marquis of Ormonde at Kilkenny Castle, he went early in life to Dublin, and entered as a student in the art schools of the Dublin Society. In 1790, Comerford was recommended for a certificate from the school commending his "extraordinary merit in drawing from the flat". He was awarded a medal for his figure-drawing in 1791. Career He spent the early part of his career in Kilkenny and neighbouring counties, but he also worked in Dublin. Máire Aoife Comerford (2 June 1893 - 15 December 1982) was an Irish republican from County Wexford who witnessed central events in 1916-23 and remained a committed supporter of Cumann na mBan until her death. Early career to 1916 Comerford was born as Mary Eva Comerford on 2 June 1893 in Rathdrum, County Wicklow. Her parents were James Comerford, a flour and corn miller, and Eva Mary Esmonde. Her grandfather, Thomas Esmonde was awarded a V.C. for bravery in the Crimean war in 1854. On his return to Ireland he joined the Royal Irish Constabulary and was promoted to Deputy Chief Inspector. Gerald Comerford (c.1558–1604), (also called ''Gerard'' or ''Garrett Comerford'') was an Irish barrister, judge and statesman of the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. He sat in the House of Commons in the Irish Parliament of 1585–6, and briefly held office as Chief Justice of Munster and as a Baron of the Court of Exchequer. He profited from his close family association with the Earl of Ormond (who was himself a favourite of Elizabeth I, being her cousin through her mother Anne Boleyn). Galway City Museum ( ga, Músaem Cathrach na Gaillimhe, IPA: mˠuːsˠeːmʲˈkahɾˠəxˈnˠaˈɡal̪ʲəvʲə is a museum in Galway City, County Galway, Ireland.
