Lombard Street (Portland, Oregon)
Lombard Street is a main thoroughfare in North and Northeast Portland, Oregon. It serves as a boundary and main commercial street for several North Portland neighborhoods. Route description Lombard Street begins at the entrance to Kelley Point Park, near the confluence of the Columbia and Willamette Rivers. From here, it crosses the Columbia Slough and briefly runs southwest before turning south, serving as a primary industrial arterial. It then crosses above a railroad junction which serves that industrial area, briefly continues as Burgard Road, then turns southeast and continues again as Lombard. It passes Schnitzer Steel and Pier Park before continuing into Downtown St. Johns as the main commercial street. At the end of that section, it crosses an intersection with Richmond Avenue, at which point it takes over the U.S. Route 30 Bypass (US 30 Byp.) designation. Albina, Oregon
Albina is a historical American city that was consolidated into Portland, Oregon in 1891. The land the City of Albina would later be built on was claimed by J.L. Losing and Joseph Delay under the U.S. Donation Land Claim Act of 1850. The land was then sold to William Winter Page. In 1872, Page sold the land to George Henry Williams and Edwin Russell, who laid out the original town site. Williams and Russell named the City of Albina for Page's wife and daughter, both of whom were named Albina. In 1874, Russell went bankrupt and left Oregon for San Francisco. James Montgomery and William Reid then acquired the property and started residential development. As of 1880, the population of Albina was 143 people. The city was incorporated in 1887 and by 1888, Albina's population was 3,000. The area was home to the Oregon Railroad and Navigation Company's Albina railroad yards, which employed many of the city's residents. Portsmouth is a neighborhood in the north section of Portland, Oregon, United States. It is bordered by Columbia Boulevard to the north, Lombard Street to the south, Chautauqua Boulevard to the east, and a BNSF Railway cut to the west. History In 1883, a group of realtors operating as the "Portsmouth Real Estate Association" platted a subdivision around present-day Portsmouth Avenue and Lombard Street. This association referred to the subdivision as the "City of Portsmouth", although a proper municipality was never established. This land was later acquired by the Electric Land Company, which platted "Portsmouth Villa" in 1889.
