Colorado State Highway 165
State Highway 165 (SH 165) is a state highway in southern Colorado. SH 165's western terminus is at SH 96 east of Silver Cliff, and the eastern terminus is at Interstate 25 (I-25), U.S. Route 85 (US 85) and US 87 near Colorado City. Route description SH 165 begins in the west at a junction with SH 96 roughly fifteen miles east of Silver Cliff. From there the road proceeds to the southeast through portions of San Isabel National Forest. One notable attraction on the route is Bishop Castle, about south of SH 96. After Fairview, the highway meets the southwest end of SH 78 near San Isabel, through which SH 165 also passes. After San Isabel, the highway turns more nearly easterly and passes out of the national forest and though Rye. The route continues east through Colorado City before reaching its eastern terminus at exit 74 of I-25. The highway forms part of the Frontier Pathways Scenic Byway. Silver Cliff, Colorado
The Town of Silver Cliff is the Statutory Town that is the most populous municipality in Custer County, Colorado, United States. The population was 587 at the 2010 census, up from 512 in 2000. History Silver Cliff was formed in the late 1870s to house the miners of its namesake, the Silver Cliff mine, and other silver mines in the neighborhood, such as the Bull-Domingo. The town, incorporated in 1879, had 5,040 residents by the 1880 census, making it the third most populous town in Colorado, after Denver and Leadville. Silver Cliff was the county seat from 1886 (when the town won the seat from Rosita) to 1928 (when the seat moved to nearby Westcliffe). The Silver Cliff mine, also known as the Geyser mine, is on the hill immediately north of the town. In the US state of Colorado, Interstate 25 (I-25) follows the north–south corridor through Colorado Springs and Denver. The highway enters the state from the north near Carr and exits the state near Starkville. The highway also runs through the cities of Fort Collins, Loveland, and Pueblo.
