Colonia, Federated States Of Micronesia
Colonia is an urban area between the municipalities of Rull and Weloy which serves as the capital of Yap State, one of the states in the Federated States of Micronesia. It’s not to be confused with Kolonia, the capital of Pohnpei State. It administers both Yap proper and some 13 atolls and islands reaching to the east and south for some . The 2010 Census population was 3,126. A Spanish Catholic mission was established in Colonia in 1885, during Yap's time as a colony of Spain. Tamil Harbor is the main port of Yap State. Ships have to travel through a reef-bordered passageway to reach the port, where there is a small craft wharf. There are various hotels, restaurants, shops and a medical store as well as a hospital and banks in Colonia. Yap is famous for its Rai stones, traditional money made of limestone, which was brought from neighbouring islands in Palau. Yap High School
Yap High School (YHS) is a secondary school in Rull, Rull Municipality, Yap (island), Yap Island, Yap State, Federated States of Micronesia. It is a part of the Yap State Department of Education, along with two other public secondary schools in Yap State. Most of its current buildings were built between the late 1960s to the middle of the 1970s, a period when several other public high schools were built in the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands. In April 2015, Outer Islands High School in Ulithi was damaged. Therefore 12th grade students were sent to Yap High School complete their education. Spanish Fort (Yap)
The Spanish Fort in Colonia, the capital of Yap State in the Federated States of Micronesia, is a historic seat of power on the island of Yap. Only foundational remnants of the 19th-century Spanish fortification survive, on a property now occupied by the local government. The site was also where German and Japanese administrators had their headquarters during their respective periods of administration in the decades of the 20th century before World War II. The foundation was built of stone and cement, and is still accessible via its original steps. Rai Stones
A rai stone (), or fei stone, is one of many large artifacts that were manufactured and treasured by the native inhabitants of the Yap islands in Federated States of Micronesia, Micronesia. They are also known as Yapese stone money or similar names. The typical rai stone is carved out of crystalline limestone and shaped like a disk with a hole in the center. The smallest may be in diameter. The largest extant stone is located on Rumung island, near the Riy village; it is in diameter and thick, and weighs .
