Cairo College of Fine Arts is a school of fine arts established in Cairo in 1908 and is now the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Helwan University. History The College of Fine Arts was founded by Yusuf Kamal in 1908. More than 150 students were enrolled in the first year. Education was imparted free of charge to students of all nationalities and religions. It offered classes in painting, decoration, sculpture, architecture, and calligraphy. Guillaume Laplagne, a French sculptor established in Egypt, was the school's first director. The college's students exhibited for the first time in 1911 at the Automobile Club in Cairo. Some consider that this can be considered the first exhibition by Egyptian artists of the century. It was taken over by the Ministry of Education (Egypt) in 1928. Fine Arts
In European academic traditions, fine art is developed primarily for aesthetics or creative expression, distinguishing it from decorative art or applied art, which also has to serve some practical function, such as pottery or most metalwork. In the aesthetic theories developed in the Italian Renaissance, the highest art was that which allowed the full expression and display of the artist's imagination, unrestricted by any of the practical considerations involved in, say, making and decorating a teapot. Helwan University
Helwan University is a public university based in Helwan, Egypt, which is part of Greater Cairo on over . It comprises 23 faculties and two higher institutes in addition to 50 research centers. Overview Helwan University is a member of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Universities. It was established on July 26, 1980 by Act No. 70 of 1975 over 350 acres of land. It is the youngest of 3 major governmental universities in Cairo. However, it goes back to the 19th century during the reign of Muhammad Ali of Egypt who established “The Operations School”. The fields of that school were the basis of many institutes that formed Helwan University later. Although Helwan University is the most recent of 3 major governmental universities in Cairo, it encompasses some of the oldest faculties not only in Egypt but also in the Middle East.
