Colin Batch
Colin Batch (born 27 March 1958) is a professional international field hockey coach and former international player from Australia. Batch is the head coach of the Australian Men's national hockey team the ''Kookaburras'' following his appointment on Tuesday 6 December 2016. He was the head coach of the New Zealand Men's national hockey team the '' Black Sticks'' between 2013 and 2016. Prior to this he was the head coach of the Belgium Men's national hockey team the '' Red Lions'' from 2010 to 2012. From 2001 to 2008 he was the assistant coach of the most successful Australian Men's national hockey team the ''Kookaburras'' in history. During this era Australia broke their Olympic hoodoo winning the gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics as well as bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Silver at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, Gold at the 2002 and 2006 Commonwealth Games and gold at the 2005 and 2008 Champions Trophies. Euro Hockey League
The Euro Hockey League is an annual men's field hockey cup competition organized by the EHF for the very top field hockey clubs in Europe. The competition was launched at the start of the 2007-08 field hockey season when it merged and replaced the men's EuroHockey Club Champions Cup (the champions competition) and the EuroHockey Cup Winners Cup (the Cup Winners' competition). Featuring many of the world's best players, the EHL is now seen as the pinnacle of club hockey in Europe (hockey's equivalent of the UEFA Champions League) with top clubs from across the continent playing what many consider to be the most exciting and dynamic club hockey in the world. Field hockey at the 2012 Olympic Games in London took place from 29 July to 11 August at the Riverbank Arena within the Olympic Park. On 13 November 2010 the International Hockey Federation (FIH) decided to allocate 12 teams for each men and women events respectively. Germany won the men's tournament for the fourth time, and the women's tournament was won by the Netherlands — their third Olympic women's hockey title. The 2011 Men's EuroHockey Championship was the 13th edition of the EuroHockey Nations Championship, the biennial international men's field hockey championship of Europe organized by the European Hockey Federation. It was held from 20 to 28 August 2011 in Mönchengladbach, Germany. This tournament also served as a qualifier for the 2012 Olympics, with the finalists and the team finishing in third position earning a spot. However, because England finished in the top three, the fourth team (Belgium) qualified instead, as England cannot qualify as a nation for the Olympics (they automatically participated as Great Britain). Sultan Azlan Shah Cup
The Sultan Azlan Shah Cup is an annual invitational international men's field hockey tournament held in Malaysia. It began in 1983 as a biennial contest. The tournament became an annual event after 1998, following its growth and popularity. The tournament is named after the ninth Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) of Malaysia, Sultan Azlan Shah, a supporter of field hockey. Since 2007 the tournament has been held at the Azlan Shah Stadium in Ipoh, Perak. Kuala Lumpur and Penang have also hosted the tournament. Field Hockey
Field hockey is a team sport structured in standard hockey format, in which each team plays with ten outfield players and a goalkeeper. Teams must drive a round hockey ball by hitting it with a hockey stick towards the rival team's shooting circle and then into the goal. The match is won by the team that scores the most goals. Matches are played on grass, watered turf, artificial turf, synthetic field, or indoor boarded surface. The stick is made of wood, carbon fibre, fibreglass, or a combination of carbon fibre and fibreglass in different quantities. The stick has two sides; one rounded and one flat; only the flat face of the stick is allowed to progress the ball. During play, goalkeepers are the only players allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. A player's hand is considered part of the stick if holding the stick.
