Coleg Menai
Coleg Menai (meaning: ''Menai College'') is a further education college located in Bangor, Gwynedd, Wales. The college also has campuses in Parc Menai, Llangefni, Caernarfon and Holyhead. The college provides a range of academic and vocational courses including A levels, Apprenticeships, English for Speakers of Other Languages programmes and Access courses. It also offers some higher education courses in conjunction with Bangor University, Glyndŵr University and the University of South Wales. On 2 April 2012, Coleg Menai and Coleg Llandrillo Cymru (which included Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor) merged to create Grwp Llandrillo Menai, the largest further education institute in Wales. Matthew Dent (designer)
Matthew Dent (born in 1981 in Bangor, Wales) is a British graphic designer. His designs were selected for the new reverse sides of seven coins of the pound sterling, after a competition open to the public by the Royal Mint on 2 April 2008. Dent studied art at Coleg Menai and graduated in graphic design from the University of Brighton. The competition was to re-design the reverses of all circulation British coins (except the two pound coin which had only been introduced eleven years earlier). His entry was selected as the best of 4,000 and he was given a one-off payment of £35,000. Dent's designs were inspired by heraldry. He divided the shield of the Royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom among the pence coins, so that when they are placed together they show the entire shield. Coleg Llandrillo Cymru
Coleg Llandrillo (English meaning: Llandrillo College) is a college in the north of Wales. After its merger in 2012, Grwp Llandrillo Menai became Wales' largest further education institution. History The college (which originally only included the main campus at Rhos-on-Sea) was opened as Llandrillo Technical College by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, on 23 June 1965. The word "Technical" was removed from the name of the college in response to the college's shift towards teaching academic as well as vocational subjects. The name Coleg Llandrillo Cymru was adopted around 2002 and was intended to imply that the College is for the whole of Wales.
