''Colección'' is a two-disc compilation album from Puerto Rican singer Roy Brown. It features a collection of Brown's hits and old songs, some of them recorded live. The album was released under Brown's label Discos Lara-Yarí in 1996. Background and recording Roy Brown describes ''Colección'' as a "self-conscious journey" through his career. He says that the album includes songs that are "favorites of the public, others favorites of mine, some forgotten and unknown, others never recorded and that had their chance, even if they never made it to the 'hit parade'".''Colección'' album booklet Most of the songs on Disc one were recorded live. Roy Brown (Puerto Rican Musician)
Roy Brown Ramírez (born July 18, 1945) is a Puerto Rican musician and singer.Liner notes of "Basta Ya... Revolución" (Disco Libre) Early years Brown's father was an American United States Navy, naval officer and his mother a native of Puerto Rican citizenship, Puerto Rico. Brown was raised during turbulent times in the United States. Among the important issues of those days were racism, the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War. Most of these events went on to form an important part in his ideals and his way of thinking. In the late-1960s Brown graduated from Academia del Perpetuo Socorro, later enrolled in the University of Puerto Rico. "Oubao Moin" is a song by Puerto Rican singer/songwriter Roy Brown. The song is based on a poem from Juan Antonio Corretjer. Juancito Torres
Juan “Juancito” Torres Velez (January 14, 1936 – July 26, 2003), also known as "La Trompeta Nacional De Puerto Rico", was a Puerto Rican salsa and jazz trumpet player, composer, arranger, producer and musical director best known for his association with the Fania All-Stars from 1979 to 1985. He was known as a great soloist, specializing in upper register. Early life Torres was born in Caguas Puerto Rico on January 14, 1936, and began in music by playing violin in his hometown, where he belonged to the Municipal Band. Torres began formal musical studies at the age of fourteen when he enrolled at the Escuela Libre de Música. In 1952 he joined the orchestra of jazz musician Ramón Usera Vives. In 1955 he moved to New York City, where he performed with Xavier Cugat, Noro Morales and Lecuona Cuban Boys. Zoraida Santiago
Dr. Zoraida Santiago Buitrago (born May 25, 1952) is a composer and singer of Puerto Rican folkloric themes. Early years Santiago (birth name:Zoraida Santiago Buitrago ) was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico to Domingo Santiago and Zayda Buitrago. She was raised and educated in Santurce and at a very young age became interest in musical instruments. Her parents had her take piano lessons as a child. She also took lessons about musical composition and harmony. Santiago is a self-taught guitarist. After graduating from high school, Santiago moved to New York City where she pursued her university studies in anthropology. Musical career In 1978, she met fellow Puerto Rican singer Roy Brown. Cuatro (Puerto Rico)
The Puerto Rican Cuatro (instrument), cuatro (Spanish: cuatro puertorriqueño) is the national instrument of Puerto Rico. It belongs to the lute family of string instruments, and is guitar-like in function, but with a shape closer to that of the violin. The word ''cuatro'' means "four", which was the total number of strings of the earliest Puerto Rican instrument known by the ''cuatro'' name. The current cuatro has ten strings in five courses, tuned, in perfect fourth, fourths, from low to high B3 B2♦E4 E3♦A3 A3♦D4 D4♦G4 G4 (note that the bottom two pairs are in octaves, while the top three pairs are tuned in unison), and a Scale length (string instruments), scale length of 500-520 millimetres.
