Coldspring, Baltimore
Coldspring, also known as Cold Spring, is a neighborhood in the North District of Baltimore, located between Cylburn (west) and the Village of Cross Keys (east). Its boundaries are drawn by West Northern Parkway (north), Greenspring Avenue (west), Jones Falls Expressway (east) and West Cold Spring Lane (south). Cold Spring Park covers about two-thirds of the neighborhood, running from Cold Spring's northern tip, where the Jones Falls Expressway crosses over West Northern Parkway, and overlapping the neighborhood's southern edge at West Cold Spring Lane. The Jones Falls Trail passes through Cold Spring on its 10-mile course between Mount Washington and the Inner Harbor, with a branch of the trail extending to the Cylburn Arboretum in Cold Spring Park. Northern Parkway (Baltimore)
Northern Parkway is a major road that runs west–east across the northern part of the city Baltimore. For most of the way, it is at least six lanes wide, and it is used by motorists for crosstown travel. It is designated E. Northern Pkwy and W. Northern Pkwy with Charles Street being the dividing line. It was constructed in the 1950s through several neighborhoods and several homes were razed in the process from right-of-way. The section of E. Northern Pkwy from Harford Road to Fleetwood Ave was originally called German Lane. Northern Parkway starts in the west at Liberty Heights Avenue in Northwest Baltimore's Lochearn community, and in the east at Belair Road in Overlea, Maryland. The road forms the northern boundary of Pimlico Racetrack. Fort McHenry
Fort McHenry is a historical American coastal pentagonal bastion fort on Locust Point, now a neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland. It is best known for its role in the War of 1812, when it successfully defended Baltimore Harbor from an attack by the British navy from the Chesapeake Bay on September 13–14, 1814. It was first built in 1798 and was used continuously by the U.S. armed forces through World War I and by the Coast Guard in World War II. It was designated a national park in 1925, and in 1939 was redesignated a " National Monument and Historic Shrine". During the War of 1812 an American storm flag, , was flown over Fort McHenry during the bombardment. Sinai Hospital (Maryland)
Sinai Hospital is an American private hospital based in Baltimore, Maryland, that was founded in 1866 as the Hebrew Hospital and Asylum. It is now a Jewish-sponsored teaching hospital that provides care for patients in the greater Baltimore City, Baltimore County and surrounding communities. The implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) was invented here by the team of Dr. Michel Mirowski, Dr. Morton Mower, M. Stephen Heilman, and Alois Langer who are all in the National Inventors Hall of Fame for their achievement. Route 1 (MTA Maryland)
CityLink Navy is a bus route operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore. It replaced Route 1 in 2017. The bus route is the successor to the 1 Gilmor Street, 2 Carey Street, and 2 Fort Avenue streetcar lines. History The Citizens' Passenger Railway obtained a franchise from the city on June 25, 1868 to build a line from Druid Hill Park to Patterson Park, using Fayette Street west of downtown and roughly including what became the No. 1 and 2 streetcar lines. The People's Passenger Railway built the Druid Hill Avenue Line and a line to Fort McHenry via Fort Avenue; the two companies merged with several others in 1888 to form the Baltimore Traction Company. Cable cars began running on the Gilmor Street Line to downtown on May 23, 1891, and the Carey Street Line was electrified on May 15, 1893. Cylburn Arboretum
__NOTOC__ Cylburn Arboretum ronounced sil·brn aar·br·ee·tm is a city park with arboretum and gardens, located at 4915 Greenspring Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland. It is open daily excluding Mondays without charge. The arboretum began as the private estate of businessman Jesse Tyson, who started construction of Cylburn Mansion in 1863. The house, designed by Baltimore City Hall architect George Aloysius Frederick, was eventually completed in 1888 and remains intact, a stone structure built of gneiss from Tyson's quarries at Bare Hills, with mansard roof, tower, and an Italianate cupola. It became the Cylburn Wildflower Preserve and Garden Center in 1954 and, in 1982, was renamed the Cylburn Arboretum Association. The Cylburn Mansion houses a display of watercolor paintings of Maryland wildflowers that is open to the public. Jones Falls Trail
Jones Falls Trail (typically abbreviated JFT) is a hiking and bicycling trail in Baltimore, Maryland. It mostly runs along the length of the namesake Jones Falls, a major north–south stream in and north of the city that has long acted as a major transportation corridor for the city. It also incorporates the bike path encircling Druid Hill Reservoir and its namesake park. The Jones Falls Trail forms a segment of the East Coast Greenway, a partially completed network of off-road bicycling routes that runs the length of the East Coast. Village of Cross Keys is a privately owned upscale area of Baltimore, Maryland. It is located off Maryland Route 25 (Falls Road) between Northern Parkway and Cold Spring Lane, and is home to luxury condos and upscale small shops. Baltimore financier and mall developer James Rouse, founder of The Rouse Company, purchased the Frederick Law Olmsted Jr.-designed Baltimore Country Club Golf Course near his Roland Park home for $1,700,000 in 1963, site unseen. The 5,000-person village was built on the historic property in 1965. Michael D. Spear was the development director, later becoming CEO of the Rouse Company.
