Col De Portel
Col de Portel (el. 1,432 m.) is a mountain pass in the French Pyrenees between Saint-Girons and Foix in the "massif de l'Arize". Details of the climb From Saint-Girons (west), the climb to the Col de Portel crosses the '' Col de la Crouzette'' (1,241 m). To the ''Col de la Crouzette'' the climb is 11.2 km long, at an average gradient of 6.5%, with a short section at 10.8%. From the ''Col de la Crouzette'' to the summit is a further 3.5 km, gaining an extra 191 m, with the steepest section (near the summit) at 8.0%. Starting from la Mouline, (east) the climb to the ''Col de Portel'' crosses the ''Mur de Péguère'' (1,375 m). To the ''Mur de Péguère'' the climb is 18 km long; over this distance, the climb is 872 m (an average of 4.8%). Saint-Girons, Ariège
Saint-Girons (; oc, Sent Gironç) is a commune in the Ariège department in southwestern France. History Antiquity Unlike its close neighbour Saint-Lizier, Saint-Girons isn't an ancient city; there was however a ''lucus'' on its present territory where some Roman finds were made during the construction of the train station in the beginning of the twentieth century. Modern-days district ''Le Luc'' is considered to owe its name to this ancient ''lucus''. Foix
Foix (; oc, Fois ; ca, Foix ) is a commune, the former capital of the County of Foix. It is the capital of the department of Ariège as it is the seat of the Préfecture of that department. Foix is located in the Occitanie region of southwestern France. It is the second least populous French departmental capital, the least populous being Privas. Mur De Péguère
The Mur de Péguère (also known as the Col de Péguère) (elevation ) is a mountain pass in the French Pyrenees in the department of Ariège, between the communities of Massat (south) and Sentenac-de-Sérou (north). Details of climb From Massat, the climb initially follows the D618 towards the Col de Port before turning onto the D17 just after the Col des Caougnous. The total ascent is long, with a height gained of at an average gradient of 7.4%, with the section after the Col des Caougnous having stretches in excess of 18%. From the Foix direction, the ascent starts at La Mouline (Serres-sur-Arget) from where the climb is , gaining , in height at an average gradient of 4.8%. 2008 Tour De France
The 2008 Tour de France was the 95th running of the race. The event took place from 5 to 27 July. Starting in the French city of Brest, the tour entered Italy on the 15th stage and returned to France during the 16th, heading for Paris, its regular final destination, which was reached in the 21st stage.
