"Cobwebs in Concrete" is a 1968 Australian TV play written by actor John Warwick. It aired on the ABC as part of the anthology show ''Wednesday Theatre'' immediately after '' The Queen's Bishop''. Australian TV drama was relatively rare at the time. Plot A bridge over the Sunda River in Bali collapses killing four adults and 22 children. An investigation results. The bridge was built by Dan Fenner, an ambitious man in his early thirties. The design of the bridge brought him much acclaim. Investigations reveal various jealousies and passions. John Warwick
John McIntosh Beattie (4 January 1905 – 10 January 1972), known professionally as John Warwick, was an Australian actor, and television dramatist. Early life He was born John McIntosh Beattie (many sources give "Beattle") at Bellingen, New South Wales, Australia. He took the name Warwick from his secondary school. Acting career Warwick had an extensive career over 40 years, beginning in Australian cinema in the early 1930s (he is attributed with introducing Errol Flynn, a personal acquaintance in Sydney, to acting by bringing him along to a casting session when ''In the Wake of the Bounty'' was being filmed). After relocating to England he was trained as an actor at Harrogate theatre with the repertory company "The White Rose Players", afterwards moving into British cinema in the late 1930s–1940s, and television from the 1950s. "The Queen's Bishop" is an Australian TV play. It aired on the ABC as part of ''Wednesday Theatre''. According to a TV Guide listing, the play is "about a family and their relationships to one another". Premise Lady Simpson was the pivot around which her family revolved. Then she died, and the family collapses into a battle for leadership which threaten to tear the family apart. Sir Leonard Simpson tries to replace his lost Queen (Lady Simpson) with his secretary. The rest of the family rallies under the leadership of its Queen, Pauline, the wife of Sir Leonard's eldest son, Bede, to keep out the secretary, who they feel is an outsider. Frank Edward Wilson (11 April 1924 – 24 October 2005) was an Australian film, stage and television actor; musical comedy singer and director; and television game show and variety host. Early life Frank Wilson was born in 1924 in the Melbourne suburb of Northcote. He left school at the age of 13. In 1943, he joined the Australian Army, where he served as a Signalman in Borneo and Papua New Guinea until his discharge in 1945. Michael Duffield
Michael Duffield (1915 – June 1986) was an English-born character actor who worked in Australia for many decades. He was nominated for the 1979 AACTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in ''The Last of the Knucklemen'', a role he was reprising from the original stage production. Duffield was also a prominent theatre actor, starting from 1950, with numerous career characters with the Melbourne Theatre Company, he won awards in 1962 for his performance on stage in ''The Caretaker'' and also was notable for playing. Wynn Roberts (born 1923/1924 – 24 August 2021) credited also as Wyn Roberts and Wynne Roberts, was an Australian radio, stage and screen actor who appeared in more than 70 film and television productions between the early 1950s and 2001. He appeared in numerous TV plays and also featured in TV miniseries over a career spanning 50 years. Sheila Mary Florance (24 July 1916 – 12 October 1991) was an Australian theatre, television and film actress. She was best known for her performance as elderly, alcoholic convict Lizzie Birdsworth in the television series ''Prisoner''. Florance, born in Melbourne, Victoria, married an Englishman in 1934 and sailed to London. She spent World War II in England. Her early career was based on the London stage. Her first husband died in action following the 1944 Normandy landings. Returning to Australia in 1948, where she started performing locally as a theatre actress, before entering films and television series. Florance had a reputation as a teller of extraordinary stories and in the 1950s she was known for her house parties.
