Coaticook River
The Coaticook River is a north-flowing river rising in Vermont, United States, and located primarily in the Estrie region of Quebec, Canada. The mouth of the river is located north of Waterville and south of Lennoxville, near the southern border of the city of Sherbrooke, at the Massawippi River. Via the Massawippi and the Saint-François River, it is part of the St. Lawrence River watershed. Essex County is a county located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Vermont. As of the 2020 census, the population was 5,920, making it the least-populous county in both Vermont and New England. Its shire town (county seat) is the municipality of Guildhall. Dixville, Quebec
Dixville is a municipality in Quebec, Canada, situated east of Stanstead, in the regional county municipality of Coaticook and the region of Eastern Township. History Dixville was originally known as "Drew's Mills", named after a settler, who the early 1800s, had built a saw mill at this location on the Coaticook River. The settlement began around the year 1830; the site was back then part of the Township of Barford. A Mr. Drew set up a dwelling on the banks of the Coaticook River, cleared land to build a sawmill beside a dam which he had built. In 1836, John Wright came to join up with Drew. Soon after, others came to this place and the village became known as Drew's Mills. Shortly before the turn of the century, it was renamed Dixville, after Richard Dick Baldwin, who was known as "Uncle Dick" by the majority of the town's residents. Coaticook () is a town on the Coaticook River in southeastern Quebec, Canada. It is the seat of the Coaticook Regional County Municipality, and its southern border is also the Canada–United States border. In addition to the primary community of Coaticook, smaller communities that are now within the municipal boundaries include Baldwin's Mills, Barnston, Ladd's Mills and Stanhope, the last of which was a separate community in the 1890s and used to have the small private Stanhope Airport. Vermont Route 114 (VT 114) is a north–south state highway in northeastern Vermont in the United States. It runs northward from U.S. Route 5 (US 5) in Lyndon until nearing the Canada–United States border in the town of Norton; thereafter, the road continues east to the New Hampshire state line in Canaan. The vast majority of VT 114 is situated within Essex County; however, the route also passes through small, isolated portions of Caledonia and Orleans Counties. Island Pond is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Brighton in Essex County, Vermont, United States. The population was 750 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Berlin, NH–VT Micropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Island Pond is in the center of the town of Brighton, at the north end (outlet) of Island Pond, the lake.
