Coalville East railway station was a station on the Charnwood Forest Railway. It served the town of Coalville, Leicestershire, England. History The station was opened by the Charnwood Forest Railway (CFR) on 16 April 1883. It was the start of their line to Loughborough. Coalville is an industrial town in the district of North West Leicestershire, Leicestershire in the East Midlands of England, with a population at the 2011 census of 34,575. Charnwood Forest Railway
The Charnwood Forest Railway was a branch line in Leicestershire constructed by the Charnwood Forest Company between 1881 and 1883. The branch line ran from Coalville (joined from the Ashby and Nuneaton Joint Railway (ANJR)) to the town of Loughborough. It should not be confused with the much earlier railway that was part of the Charnwood Forest Canal. Stations on the Charnwood Forest Railway were located at Coalville East, Whitwick railway station, Whitwick, Shepshed and Loughborough Derby Road railway station, Loughborough Derby Road. By 1885, the company had been placed in receivership; under this supervision, in 1907 three halts were opened, these being Thringstone Halt, Grace Dieu Halt and Snells Nook Halt. Loughborough Derby Road Railway Station
Loughborough Derby Road railway station was a station on the Charnwood Forest Railway. History The station was opened by the Charnwood Forest Railway (CFR) on 16 April 1883. It was the terminus of their line from Coalville. The CFR was operated by the London and North Western Railway (LNWR) from the outset, but remained independent until absorbed into the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS), of which the LNWR was a constituent, as part of the 1923 Grouping. The LMS had another station in Loughborough, and they closed the former CFR station on 13 April 1931. The station was demolished after closure although the goods shed remained in situ and was used by light industry until the 2000s, after which it quickly became derelict.
