Clube Esportivo de Futebol, commonly known as Esportivo, is a Brazilian football team based in Passos, Minas Gerais state. They finished as the runners-up of the Série C once. History The club was founded on August 30, 1929. Esportivo won the Campeonato Mineiro Second Level in 1985. They competed in the Série C in 1988, when they were defeated in the final by União São João. After political conflicts in the city of Passos, former members of Clube Esportivo de Futebol founded Clube Esportivo Passense de Futebol e Cultura on January 23, 2001. Passos, Minas Gerais
Passos is a Brazilian municipality located in the southwest of the state of Minas Gerais. Its population as of 2020 was 115,337 people living in a total area of 1,339 km2. The city belongs to the meso-region of Sul e Sudoeste de Minas and to the micro-region of Passos. It became a municipality in 1858. The name is derived from the patron saint Décio Velho Martins Cançado. Location The city center of Passos is located at an elevation of 830 meters in a fertile region between the state boundary of São Paulo and the great reservoir of Furnas. Campeonato Brasileiro Série C
The Campeonato Brasileiro Série C is the third tier of the Brazilian football league system. Unlike the first and second divisions, the Série C is not played in a double round robin system, arguably because many participating teams lack the financial conditions to travel long distances. Thus, the tournament is organized in regional groups and the table prevents teams from distant states from playing each other in the initial rounds. Until 2008, any professional team could apply, but only 64 teams would take part in the tournament. The teams that had been relegated from the Série B in the previous year were joined by teams qualified for each federation state. The Campeonato Brasileiro Série C 1988, known as the Divisão de Acesso, was a football series played from 22 October to 18 December 1988. It was the third level of the Brazilian National League. The competition had 43 clubs, and two of them were originally promoted to Série B.
