Cloverdale Mall
Cloverdale Mall is a community shopping centre located in the Etobicoke area of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, at 250 The East Mall northeast of the intersection of Dundas Street West and Highway 427). It opened in 1956 as an open-air shopping plaza on what was part of the Eatonville farm. History In 1956, Cloverdale Mall opened with two major anchors: Dominion and Morgan's. The centre of the plaza was an open-air concrete courtyard. In the 1960s, following the purchase of Morgan's by the Hudson's Bay Company, the Morgan's store was converted into The Bay. In the 1980s, Cloverdale Mall was converted into an enclosed mall and expanded. In 2005, Hudson's Bay Company replaced The Bay department store with their discount store Zellers at the mall's north end. Target Canada Co. was the Canadian subsidiary of the Target Corporation, the eighth-largest retailer in the United States. Formerly headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, the subsidiary was formed with the acquisition of Zellers store leases from the Hudson's Bay Company in January 2011. Zellers was a Canadian discount department retail chain and is currently a brand name owned by the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC). Founded in 1931 in London, Ontario, in later decades it was based in Brampton, Ontario. Zellers was acquired by HBC in 1978 before closing in 2013. A series of acquisitions and expansions allowed Zellers to reach its peak in the 1990s, with 350 stores across the country in 1999. Dominion was a national chain of supermarkets in Canada, which was known as the Dominion of Canada when the chain was founded. The chain was founded in 1919 in Ontario and was later acquired by the Argus Corporation. It was later sold to The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A&P), which restricted the chain to the Greater Toronto Area.
