Clive Whitehead
Clive Robert Whitehead (born 24 November 1955) is an English former footballer. Life and career Whitehead was born in Northfield, Birmingham. He played for Bordesley Green Boys and Northfield Juniors during his youth and had a trial with Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1971. In March 1973 he joined Bristol City and turned professional with the club five months later. He scored the winning goal to help the club to achieve promotion from the Second Division in 1975–76. Whitehead was transferred to West Bromwich Albion in November 1981, for a fee of £100,000, and made his debut for his new club away at Tottenham Hotspur in a First Division match. During the 1985–86 season he was loaned to Albion's local rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers. Northfield, Birmingham
Northfield is a residential area in outer south Birmingham, England, and near the boundary with Worcestershire. It is also a council constituency, managed by its own district committee. The constituency includes the wards of Kings Norton, Longbridge, Weoley Castle and the smaller ward of Northfield that includes West Heath and Turves Green. Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. The First Division contained between 12 and 24 clubs, playing each other home and away in a double round robin. The competition was based on two points for a win from 1888 until the increase to three points for a win in 1981. Alan Whitehead (footballer, Born 1951)
Alan John Whitehead (born 3 September 1951) is an English former professional footballer who played in the Football League for Birmingham City. Biography Whitehead was born in the Bordesley Green district of Birmingham. When he left school in 1967, he joined Birmingham City as an apprentice, and turned professional two years later. As a junior, he played on the wing, but became most comfortable in central defence. He made his first-team debut in the Anglo-Italian Tournament in 1971, and played his part in Birmingham's promotion to the First Division in the 1971–72 season. Having made his Football League debut on 22 April 1972 in a 1–1 draw at home to Middlesbrough, he stood in for the injured Stan Harland in the last two games of that season, both away from home, both of which Birmingham needed to – and did – win. In professional association football, a free transfer, also known as a Bosman transfer, involves a professional association football club releasing a player when the player's contract has expired or made available just before the end of the contract. The player can then go on to sign for any club offering a contract to them. In sports, a loan involves a particular player being able to temporarily play for a club other than the one to which they are currently contracted. Loan deals may last from a few weeks to a full season, sometimes persisting for multiple seasons at a time.
