Clinton is a town in Clinton County, New York, United States. The population was 737 at the 2010 census. The town is located in the northwestern corner of the county and is northwest of Plattsburgh. History The area was settled before 1820, near the community of Frontier. The town was set apart from the town of Ellenburg in 1845. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town of Clinton has a total area of , of which is land and , or 0.04%, is water. The northern town line is the Canada–US border with Quebec in Canada, and the western town line is the border of the town of Chateaugay in Franklin County. U.S. Route 11 is an east-west highway, which intersects New York State Route 189, a north-south highway, south of Churubusco. New York State Route 189 (NY 189) is a north–south state highway located near the northern border of New York in the United States. It extends for through the Clinton County town of Clinton from a junction with U.S. Route 11 (US 11) to the Canada–US border, where it continues into Quebec as Route 209. In between, the two-lane NY 189 serves the small hamlet of Churubusco. Outside of Churubusco, the highway passes through rural, undeveloped areas. NY 189 was assigned to its current alignment as part of the 1930 renumbering of state highways in New York and has remained untouched since.
