Clifton Hill is the seventh studio album by Canadian pop metal band Honeymoon Suite, released in late 2008. Background and details After Honeymoon Suite's original lineup (circa 1984) reunited to tour Canada in the mid-2000s. Honeymoon Suite consisting of original band members Johnnie Dee and Derry Grehan returned to the studio to record a new album with their original producer and current manager, Tom Tremeuth. The first single released to radio was "Tired O' Waitin' on You". The album title is an homage to the cluster of tourist attractions on Clifton Hill in the band's hometown of Niagara Falls, Ontario. As guitarist Derry Grehan explained in an interview with ''The Niagara Falls Review'': "I think our best record was ''The Big Prize,'' and the new songs were kind of sounding like that. Honeymoon Suite
Honeymoon Suite is a Canadian rock band formed in 1981 in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The band's name was a nod to the fact that Niagara Falls is the unofficial honeymoon capital of the world. History 1981–1985 The band was originally formed in 1981 by Johnnie Dee (vocals, guitar), Brad Bent (keyboards, vocals) and Mike Lengyell (drums, formerly with The Diodes). By 1983, the line-up changed, with Dee (the only original remaining member) now on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, along with new recruits Derry Grehan on lead guitar and Dave Betts on drums, both of whom had recorded two albums as members of Toronto-based new wave group Steve Blimkie and the Reason. Grehan became the band's primary songwriter, and penned "New Girl Now," which won them an unsigned band contest put on by Toronto radio station Q107. Clifton Hill (Niagara Falls)
Clifton Hill is one of the major tourist promenades in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The street, close to Niagara Falls and the Niagara River, leads from River Road on the Niagara Parkway to intersect with Victoria Avenue, and contains a number of gift shops, wax museums, haunted houses, video arcades, restaurants, hotels and themed attractions. ''The Big Prize'' is the second album by Honeymoon Suite, released in 1985. It featured four hit singles, including the band's biggest hit in the U.S., " Feel It Again," and "Bad Attitude," which was notably featured in a sequence in the final episode of ''Miami Vice'' 4 years later. In 1990 the album was certified Triple Platinum in Canada (in excess of 300,000 copies sold) by the CRIA (Canadian Recording Industry Association). The album cover features a newly married couple having their picture taken by some tourists at Niagara Falls, Honeymoon Suite's hometown. The photo was taken on the Canadian side of the Falls. Lundy's Lane
King's Highway 20, commonly referred to as Highway 20, is a provincially maintained highway in the Canadian province of Ontario. Presently, it is a short stub between Highway 58 and Niagara Regional Road 70 in the City of Thorold, but until 1997 it connected Hamilton to Niagara Falls, serving several towns atop the Niagara Escarpment en route. Highway 20 was first designated in 1930, serving as a bypass to the congested Highway 8. Soon after, a new cut was made into the Niagara Escarpment south of Stoney Creek, which would serve Highway 20 for 66 years. However, the new route failed to divert a significant amount of traffic from Highway 8. John Richard DeGiuli (born October 20, 1961), known as Johnnie Dee, is a Canadian rock vocalist best known as the lead singer for the rock band Honeymoon Suite. Dee (who also plays guitar) and guitarist Derry Grehan formed Honeymoon Suite in Niagara Falls, Ontario in the early 1980s. Together they produced five studio albums and numerous hits including songs such as " New Girl Now" and "Feel It Again" which were both featured on the '' Miami Vice'' TV series. Dermot Fergus "Derry" Grehan (born July 10, 1957) is a Canadians, Canadian guitarist best known as a member of the rock band Honeymoon Suite. The band was co-founded by Johnnie Dee, keyboardist and vocalist Brad Bent, and drummer Mike Lengyell in 1981. Biography Born in St. Catharines, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, Grehan began playing piano and switched to guitar at age 11. His early influences included Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix and Santana (band), Santana. Grehan recorded his first single at 17, with a band known as Stytch. Grehan attended Fanshawe College in London, Ontario, and received a diploma in Recorded Music Production. During this time he wrote "New Girl Now" which would later become one of Honeymoon Suite's biggest hits.
