Cliff Ellen
Cliff Ellen (born 22 March 1936, in Melbourne) is an Australian character actor who played a prominent guest role on the soap opera Neighbours as Charlie Cassidy. His first role was in ''Homicide''. His credits include ''Crackerjack'', ''Garbo'', and ''Phar Lap''. A theatre actor of many years, Ellen played the role of Gaston in the Australian touring production of Steve Martin's ''Picasso at the Lapin Agile'' as well as Hannie Rayson's ''Inheritance''. He also appeared in the 2006 Australian film ''BoyTown''. Ellen writes a column for a local newspaper based on the Mornington Peninsula. ''Skyways'' is an Australian television soap opera drama series made by Crawford Productions for the Seven Network. Production and casting The series, which aired from 1979 to 1981, was set at the fictional Pacific International Airport and dealt with the lives of the pilots, airline staff and management team who worked there. ''Skyways'' was mainly taped in a television studio where, in many interior-set scenes, Colour Separation Overlay created the illusion of a bustling airport with taxiing planes outside the window. Career During World War II he performed vaudeville acts to the troops and after the war did comedy shows on Melbourne radio station 3XY 1422, now known as Radio Hellas He appeared in various children's television shows as the character ''Joffa Boy'', particularly ''The Tarax Show'', wearing a Carlton Football Club jumper and "Bombay Bloomers" with large suspenders that he would manipulate for comic effect. His entrance song (written by resident star ventriloquist Ron Blaskett) was recorded by the show's girls choir along with musical director Margot Sheridan, and went like this: ''Choir: "Who is that peeping round the corner?''
