Red Hill (film)
''Red Hill'' is a 2010 Australian Neo-Western thriller film, thriller film written and directed by Patrick Hughes (director), Patrick Hughes in his directorial debut. The film stars Ryan Kwanten, Steve Bisley and Tom E. Lewis. Plot Shane Cooper (Ryan Kwanten), a young police officer, relocates to the small town of Red Hill with his pregnant wife Alice (Claire van der Boom). On his first day on the job, he is shown hostility from William "Old Bill" Jones (Steve Bisley), the head of the police force, for being unable to find his gun and getting shot on duty when he could not bring himself to fire his weapon on an armed boy. Shortly afterwards, the police learn that Jimmy Conway (Tom E. Lewis), a convicted murderer who was arrested by Old Bill for killing his wife, has escaped from prison. Patrick Hughes (director)
Patrick Hughes (born May 13, 1978) is an Australian film director and screenwriter. Early life Hughes was born in Black Rock, a suburb of Melbourne. He started making short films when he was young. Hughes attended film school at the Victorian College of the Arts, graduating in 1999. Career After making a string of high-profile commercials and shorts, and multiple failed attempts to option a script for an action/western film, he decided to direct it himself under a short schedule and low budget, in what would eventually become the 2010 film '' Red Hill'' starring Ryan Kwanten, Steve Bisley and Tom E. Margaret Pomeranz (born 14 July 1944) is an Australian film critic, writer, producer and television personality. Early life Pomeranz was born Margeret Anne Jones-Owen on 14 July 1944 in Waverley, a suburb of Sydney. She was educated at the Presbyterian Ladies' College, Sydney in Croydon, the then newly-opened Macquarie University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in German and social psychology, and the Playwright's Studio at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA). In her early twenties, she left Sydney to escape the "banality" and travelled around Europe, before returning to Australia and settling in Sydney. ''At the Movies'' is an Australian television program on ABC hosted by film critics Margaret Pomeranz and David Stratton, where they discussed the films opening in theatres that week. History The program, which began in mid-2004, is a continuation of the pair's earlier program ''The Movie Show'', which aired on SBS One from 1986 to 2004. The pair left SBS after expressing dissatisfaction with high-level decisions. The weekly half-hour program consists of film reviews and discussions as well as interviews with cast and crew members. David James Stratton (born 10 September 1939) is an English-Australian award-winning film critic, as both a journalist and interviewer, film historian and lecturer and television personality and producer. Life and career Born in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England, in 1939, Stratton was sent to Hampshire to see out the war years with his grandmother, an avid filmgoer, where he was taken to the local cinemas regularly and saw a diverse range of movies. He attended Chafyn Grove School from 1948 to 1953 as a boarder. He saw his first foreign film at Bath in 1955—Italian romantic comedy ''Bread, Love and Dreams''. Weighted Arithmetic Mean
The weighted arithmetic mean is similar to an ordinary arithmetic mean (the most common type of average), except that instead of each of the data points contributing equally to the final average, some data points contribute more than others. The notion of weighted mean plays a role in descriptive statistics and also occurs in a more general form in several other areas of mathematics. If all the weights are equal, then the weighted mean is the same as the arithmetic mean. While weighted means generally behave in a similar fashion to arithmetic means, they do have a few counterintuitive properties, as captured for instance in Simpson's paradox.
