Cleveland Street (BMT Jamaica Line)
The Cleveland Street station (formerly Cleveland Avenue station) is a skip-stop station on the BMT Jamaica Line of the New York City Subway in Brooklyn. It is served by the J train at all times. The Z train skips this station when it operates. History This elevated station was originally built by the Brooklyn Elevated Railroad as the first station to be built along the Cypress Hills extension of the Lexington Avenue Elevated line, which was also shared by the Broadway Elevated east of Gates Avenue. The station opened on May 30, 1893. The station has been exclusively for the Jamaica Line since the closure of the Lexington Avenue Line in 1950. The station was closed for renovations in the mid-2000s. Lexington Avenue Line (Brooklyn Elevated)
The BMT Lexington Avenue Line (also called the Lexington Avenue elevated) was the first standard elevated railway in Brooklyn, New York, operated in its later days by the Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company, the Brooklyn–Manhattan Transit Corporation, and then the City of New York. The original line, as it existed at the end of 1885, traveled from Fulton Ferry in Downtown Brooklyn east to East New York, passing over York Street, turning right onto Hudson Avenue (the relevant section is now called Navy Street), left onto Park Avenue, right onto Grand Avenue (which has now been fragmented), left onto Lexington Avenue, right onto Broadway, and slight left onto Fulton Street. Substation #401, also called the "Essex Sub-station" is a historic New York City Subway electrical substation. This facility is located on the south side of Fulton Street, between Essex Street and Shepherd Avenue, in the Cypress Hills neighborhood of the borough of Brooklyn. MetroCard
The MetroCard is a magnetic stripe card used for fare payment on transportation in the New York City area. It is the primary payment method for the New York City Subway (including the Staten Island Railway), New York City Transit buses and MTA buses. The MetroCard is also accepted by several partner agencies: Nassau Inter-County Express (NICE), the PATH train system, the Roosevelt Island Tramway, AirTrain JFK, and Westchester County's Bee-Line Bus System. The MetroCard was introduced in 1993 to enhance the technology of the transit system and eliminate the burden of carrying and collecting tokens. An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks.
